I just bought a new 144hz monitor with my Razer Blade 14 and I connected it with a usb c to DisplayPort cable. However, when I play some games such a Rocket League, my computer uses Intel graphics and I'm playing at 20 fps. I am really confused because the performance is so much better without the monitor. Something else that is weird is that I'm able to play Fortnite at 80fps with my monitor but when I switch to Rocket League the frames drop so much and its almost unplayable. When I turn of my intel graphics, the monitor does not connect and it says that there's no display connection.

I'm not really a tech savvy person and I really appreciate the help. Thank you

I’m also not a tech savvy, and don’t have 144hz monitor, and never use DP on monitor. Poeple said that TB3 on Blade 14 connected to iGPU (hd630) directly and HDMI to dGPU (gtx 1060) but I could use dGPU (play AC Origins, it’s impossible reach 60~FPS with intel HD630) using HDMI on usb C dock that has HDMI port (so basically I’m using TB3 port), even nvidia Control Panel doesn’t show on the external monitor. Playing on 144 Hz I think on Blade would be better using HDMI port imo, to reach max performance (I had tested on 144hz monitor, now on 4K monitor, I could only set it on 1440p 75Hz max). If you could access nvidia Control Panel on your external monitor (using DP dongle), try to set the game on max performance (gtx1060) instead balance.

Thank you so much for your help. I am able to access nvidia Control Panel on my monitor but it denies my access if I change my preferred graphics processor to the GTX 1060. I have thought about using an HDMI cable to connect my monitor but I wasn't sure if it could transfer more than 60fps to the external monitor. I'm not sure but I think the bandwidth for HDMI is lower than DisplayPort.

I see, it’s quite weird. Anyway, HDMI on your Blade is version 2.0 it could run 120Hz, idk about 144Hz, but as I had 144hz monitor it could transfer more than 60fps.

Ye its pretty weird im not sure how the HDMI port functions exactly. I could get 1080p144hz on an AOC Agon ag322fcx monitor. However when using the hdmi port and same hdmi cable on a Samsung CFG70 monitor i could only get up to 1080p120hz

It is possible to do what you want, I have a similar setup with that kind of cable and it can get 144hz. First, make sure to tell specific games in the Nvidia control panel to prefer the dedicated graphics (gtx 1060).

Second, some games I found oddly paying attention to the desktop refresh rate. Right click on the desktop and go to your display priorities before you start your game. Click on your external monitor. Under advanced I think you'll see a way to set your desktop to 144... Which also really smooths things out since you have this monitor anyway.

Let me know if you don't get it. I can try to go through my other settings and we'll figure it out.

USB Type-C to DP is the way to go if you want 144Hz or more. Using the HDMI port didn´t work for me although everyone was saying it "should" work because of this and that. Usually you should be able to right click on the game you want to start and choose the 1060. You can also set it on the nvidia control panel as default. You also have to set the hz of you display on display settings on windows to 144hz manually if you haven´t already.

It depends on you, for me on normal price no, as like I wrote 400~500 discount yes imo. 2017 model is still decent hardware, in couple of weeks mine would be a year without any hardware issue at all. We don’t know what will come in the new hardware probably new gen cpu if you look at 20~30% better cpu performance according also rumor for that mrsp price you can wait. One competitor will announce the new update for cpu early next month but they also didn’t specify the cpu model even mostly yes according staff comment in one forum. If Razer put better gpu like 1070, the price I think will also be higher than current gtx1060, it’s still 1070 with under clocked performance for better temperature.

Has anyone Paired a G-Sync Monitor with their Razer Blade? I Would like to know how it pairs with a G-Sync monitor, anything that I should know?

I don’t have g sync monitor but it seems doesn’t work because of the optimus on it according users before. One of them wrote that Support said its TB3 and hdmi port on it doesn’t directly connected to dgpu but it’s quite weird, if so then I wouldn’t be able to get dgpu performance on external monitor, both with hdmi and TB3 I can and could use 4k monitor and 144Hz monitor. If it’s so the optimus is the culprit then user should using the core to connect it directly to be able to use gysyn or other nvidia tech like surround (i did test multiple monitor gaming, nvidia Surround before having the Core and it didn’t work).

Hi! Just bought one of these laptops. All the reviews say that display brightness is really bright (some suggesting maybe too bright) but my experience is that it's not quite as bright as I like. It's not a deal breaker but it can become very difficult to make out details in during dark scenes and that's kind of a bummer. Just wanted to see if maybe I was over looking a setting somewhere? Checked the power options and made sure display brightness was set to 100% there. Any other places I should check?

Even the whites when compared to something like my Surface 3 tablet aren't as bright. I'd say it feels like brightness should be set to 60-70% not 100%.

It is a matte screen, perhaps that is why you are noticing the difference when comparing to a glossy screen, unless you have the 4k version.

FHD one? Which display type do you have (device manager, on display icon right click and go to property, search and take a look there one of scroll tab you can find MONITOR/LG... or MONITOR/AOU... follows with numbers), i have LG one and I had difficulty to find external monitor that has more white and brighter than it from 1080p till 1440p one, only 4K LG can beat the screen brightness, even MacBook Pro display isn’t so bright as mine. Btw i tested it by bringing my Blade to Electronics Store, and move the file explore from internal to external, from all monitor available on display shows it was like from night to day difference.
