Thinking of getting the new Razer Blade. One question in regards to SSD choices:

Based on what I have read, the 256GB and 512GB versions are the Samsung PM951 and the 1TB version is based on the newer/faster Samsung PM961? Can anyone confirm? Even within the PM951 family, I believe generally the 512GB is faster than the 256GB by a bit?

    I think I have 3 choices:
    1. Get the 256GB and upgrade it to a PM961 SSD (or EVO960 or perhaps even Pro 960) down the line
      • Does the laptop take retail versions such as the EVO and Pro series? The OEM PM961 is $700! on newegg.
    2. Get the 512GB version
      • Does anyone have numbers that state how fast or slow it is compared to the 256GB and the 1TB?
    3. Bite the bullet and get the 1TB version now
If the 1TB (PM961) runs the PM951 based SSDs out of the ballpark, then I am willing to spend the cash. But if it is only incremental gains, then I rather save the $400 premium.

So I just switched out my NIC with Intel AC8260 (I think it's called), and it's been great, no random drops. HOWEVER, a feature I use a lot is not available with AC8260 that was with 1535, and that is hosted network. Basically, as long as your Blade has internet, whether via ethernet or Wifi, you could use your laptop as a hotspot with 1535, but that feature is not available on Intel card.

And stuck in shipping, since they give you a free mouse with most Blades, the mouse being out of stock. And they hold your computer hostage for this junk since they ship all items at the same time.

So yeah nice laptop too bad you can't actually get a model with sufficient storage until they sort out their supply chain.

Perfect, except if you need a localised keyboard (i.e. everyone outside the US). Why cheap out on keyboard localisation? It's a total deal breaker for me.

Still not available locally in the Philippines. It is very frustrating at some point. If only we get the gadgets the same as the other regions... if only.. Please bring more Razer products and customer flexibility (payment options for laptops) in the Philippines Mr. Min-Liang Tan.

I would like to know as well. Will they make another refresh for Kaby Lake after CES 2017?

FYI - I got the 512gb version and turns out the SSD has been upgraded.

  11. Just bought it at the Microsoft Store myself 5 days ago. The 1080p screen is perfect. Have had touchscreen laptops before and never touched the screen, and for a gaming laptop 1080p is perfect at 14." Been able to play Just Cause 3, Fallout 4, Doom, Skyrim Special Edition, Crysis... all at maxed-out settings at 1080p. Plus, getting the non-touch helps with battery life and anything high than 1440p on a laptop (especially a gaming laptop) screen imo is wasted unless you are doing a lot of multi-tasking and have to have the resolution. Plus, my main gaming is done at home with the Core and my GTX 1080.

Btw, if you are thinking of buying a Blade BUY IT from the Microsoft Store. Razer's support sucks and if you are a student you get a discount. So I got the latest Razer Blade 512gb SSD, 16gb RAM, Quad Core, GTX 1060 for $1799 instead of $1999. So I got $200 off plus I got the Microsoft Complete for $89 so it covers even accidental damage for 2 years and I don't have to deal with Razer.

Has anyone here tried Novabench on their Blade 2016 (GTX 1060)? I got a score of 1201 and was a bit underwhelmed when I scrolled through Novabench's database of scores.

I was wondering if this is an acceptable score for the new Blade and whether this even a good score in general.

    Thanks in advance!

That's amazing value! I wish we had those here as well. Then maybe I won't have to wait so much. The 512GB RB costs SG$3000 over here o_O
  14. I really wanted the Blade FHD 512GB, but it can only be ordered from the online store if I want the proper keyboard setup for my country.
I have had an awful experience with the store:
They bundle the laptop with goodies that are not in stock and won't ship you anything. Even worse they will debit your account immediatly if you use PayPal, regardless of their capacity to prepare or ship your order.
Now I am struggling to cancel the order and get my money back.
Why the hell it cannot be purchased from amazon in my country?!
I really wanted to love this machine, but I will go for something else.

I just bought the razer blade 14 1060, and the fan are very loud during normal load, without doing anything. Is this normal?

I'm looking to purchase one myself but there are various posts/reviews regarding the fans at idle or minimal use.

I totally agree. Buying from the Microsoft Store is awesome. You get a really clean install with "Signature Edition", and can get the student discount if applicable. I got my Razer 2014 this way and never regretted it.

Only problem right now is that MS does not carry the GTX1060 version with the QHD screen yet. I agree with your point that 1080p is fine for gaming, but I found with my Blade 2014, that I really liked the QHD touchscreen for general work, as it is absolutely beautiful. Even with the 870M I could play Bioshock Infinite at full rez with all details. Newer games I could cut the resolution in half, in effect having each pixel match directly with 4 screen pixels - gives only slightly less than 1080p equivalent and beautiful image. That's the way I want to go with the current version of the Blade, but the QHD does not seem to be out yet at MS Store....

It's really too bad that Razer just updated to GTX 1060. I really want Kaby Lake - all the competitors have now switched to those processors.... At Razer prices you want the best of everything....
