This week I'll change it up. I'll host a pseudo AMA here on Insider. I say pseudo because it will take place throughout the week. There will be a few rules in place and it will be controlled, because I'd rather not get yelled at because I went off the rails and I like my job!

A few things:

  • I am not a qualified spokesperson for Razer (Yes, that's a thing), so I can't give any insight nor speak in an official capacity regarding any Razer related product releases. So please don't ask me about anything new that may or may not be coming out.
  • As to not give PR (Public Relations) a headache, I will not speak negatively about our products, nor will I accept any negative communications. So questions like, "Why does XXX suck?" will not be commented on.
  • I'll give my opinions on the questions asked. I will try to answer as many as I can, when I can. So please do not expect an immediate answer. And I will do my best to make this as interesting as possible.
  • Keep your questions short and concise. Wall of text entries will be deleted.
  • No customer support related questions. Please post in the Support Forum.

Alright, let's gooooo!

What changed in Razer at the end of 2019? I mean for years we had the same stuff with not a lot of innovation compared to 2019-2020. I mean its like the design department got a new life or something. A lot of companies are now following your lead but I remember Razer was feeling left out around 2018 to mid 2019 when another company was exclusively doing good gaming wireless mice.

Was kinda curious about this one for some time. Does Razer has any remote job openings for people not in US or Asia? I'd really love to work for them, but remotely is all i can do.
I don't know if this question is accurate in this thread but I'll give it a try.

My computer gets BCOD when I use my Kraken TE headset, because of driver crash and/or USB socket losing contact. I have tried all my USB sockets but the issue remains, and the drivers are up-to-date. I have heard others having this issue too.

What am I doing wrong?

Yep, absolutely. Totally a Nintendo (NES) kid growing up. HEAVY into Street Fighter II in middle and high school. I spent a lot of time at the arcades. Got into PC gaming after high school, built my first computer in college and throughout the years was lowkey jelly of my friends who had cool looking Macbooks and couldn't understand why PC companies couldn't make nice looking ones of their own. Then I discovered Razer.

It's actually the other way around. It's a matter of meeting the requirements for the job than being a gamer. Being a gamer is a plus, but being able to do your job well is first and foremost. Like, I can't imagine the hiring manager thinking to themselves, "oh, this person is a gamer! Hired!" It's more like, "ok this person is the best for this job and they happen to be a gamer, awesome." Not everyone at Razer is a gamer, but a lot of people are. That makes it fun.

Personally? Ha, I haven't hit it yet. My father would be so disappointed. Hahaha, I'm pretty hard on myself, but there's more I want to do. I hope you all get to see it, too!

This is my PR/HR answer: The pay is competitive.

I've been at Razer for about 2.5 years now. We have some really good benefits. Our HR staff is amazing and they're constantly looking out for us. As for perks, we get fed, we have a gaming allowance and we get some pretty good deals internally on our products. But the best perk I want to say are the people. I work with incredible people and play games with them regularly on top of hanging out with them (pre-pandemic) outside of work. I love my Irvine office and I miss them dearly.

ARMOR_152

Sort of. I was living in LA (Los Angeles) at the time I was hired, which is about 50 miles (80 km) from Irvine where the US office is located. I commuted for about 3 months and moved down to Irvine. But I was in the same state (CA - California) and the next county over.

Okay, this is a great question, but one I have to answer carefully. First of all, this is my take and my own personal opinion because I don't have the facts. I don't know exactly what happened. But I agree with you. Something did. I think as a company, we weren't the best anymore. We had been knocked off our throne and that didn't sit well with a lot of us. So, as a brand, we banded together, lit a bunch of fires under a lot of people. For Gamers. By Gamers, right? It's hard to look in the mirror and take stock of yourself. As a brand, I think we did something similar and no matter how hard it was, worked through it, to be better. It wasn't just one person demanding excellence. It was the company as a whole demanding the best from each other.

Yep, we have an office in Europe! Working remotely is something that's often worked out with managers, meaning you'd already have to be working with a team internally. The pandemic has changed how business is done and I don't know if this will change things moving forward. Your best bet is to apply and find out.

It's self-entitled. Cowboy sounded more fun than "Manager."

How you join and how this job change your live :)

Like most people, I got the job through someone I knew. In regards to this job changing my life, my best takeaway is that I don't have to hide my gaming habits with other people. My career has been in marketing and I used to work on the agency side and when you're in that world, all people do is talk about work and the business. It gets old and exhausting. At Razer, I can geek out with my coworkers and that's super refreshing.

It really kinda depends on what you mean by "spokesperson." Officially? Work in Marketing, Sales or PR. Anything outside of that is still hired but on a case by case basis to suit specific needs. Your other option is to have a YouTube channel/Twitch Stream with six figure subs or some sort of online influence and following. People hate hearing that but that's the way the wind is blowing at the moment.

Probably not ever. I believe you! But, don't get your hopes up.

Deathstalker. There's tons of potential there!

- My goal in life is simple: retire early with lots of money. I am nowhere near that, hahaha.
- Don't have one, honestly.
- My favorite keyboard at the moment is Huntsman Mini with the purps. I wish we had an orange equivalent. But I freaking love it. I never thought I'd be into a 60%, but given my current living space, it's perfect.
- 60%, chiclet keycaps, mechanical switches, wireless with full chroma. I know people love their fat key caps, but I used to game on a mac keyboard and I miss the sleek, low-profile and I'm always fat-fingering my keys.

The AFK's are live community events we host. But with the current pandemic, we probably won't see one for awhile.

Ah, but you see. You don't finish playing Icebourne. Icebourne finishes playing you.

Darkraihs
How much do you get paid?

Rather than focus on how much in terms of dollars and cents, I will answer with what it affords me since it can change depending on where you live and how you live. I can buy coffee everyday. I go to work with great people and get to come home and play games with them. I get to hang out with friends and engage in all the activities we do without having to worry too much about budgeting. Do I have to budget? Absolutely. Am I big spender? Not at all. I own a Blade. I own a bunch of peripherals that I paid for. I live comfortably. So, it would be unfair for me to throw out a number because it could mean absolutely nothing for some people.

But HR would insist that I say, "it's competitive" 😜

SylvanasMage

My Blade 15. It's everything I wanted in a pc laptop. It requires a bit of tweaking, but that's to be expected with something so high performance. This could be a hot take but I think a lot of people misunderstand the kind of hardware we're dealing with. And I know we get a lot of mac users who are used to having their Macbooks on the bed, but try that with the Blade and shit goes to hell. It doesn't work the same way. I'll use luxury cars as an example. The question isn't whether you can afford the car. The question is, can you afford the upkeep? Tires cost 10x more. Service costs a higher premium. The parts are more expensive. So, just because you can afford a $45,000 car, doesn't mean you can afford to actually own and care for it. Same goes for the Blade. It's a "laptop" but don't put it on your lap. You'll block the fans. You need the fans because there is some major tech in a small space doing all kinds of science things really fast and it gets hot because physics. You have to know what you're buying into and I think a lot of people take that for granted.

If you are given an Opportunity to decide and design on the next Razer product release, what will you choose that product to be ? :smile_:
