    Greetings Insiders

I am looking to sign up to VPN service, Mainly so I can watch my local sports channels from back home and the odd UK Netflix, BBC content etc.

I thought to myself who better to ask than my fellow insiders

So who do you use and why do you like them?

I am currently looking at TunnelBear, AirVPN and Nord VPN but I really have no idea which one to choose. Any tips?

    Cheers,
    SB

Out of those, I'd recommend TunnelBear. One does not simply resist the bear.

Other than that, I'd recommend Private Internet Access.

Don't forget to check online reviews.

What do you like about them? I was leaning towards the bear but they dont have servers in Aus or NZ so that may rule them out What are their speeds like?

If you have a bit spare money I'd recommend to go for Cyber Ghost and get yourself a premium account. Been using it since about 2 years now and it's really reliable and one of the fastest VPN I've used!

  9. I use Psiphon. It's great for bypassing school blocked sites

Sidedoor, I also agree with the guys above and only add s4m.xyz, this VPN helped me a lot while I were in China :big_grin_::wink_:

NOTE: I don't remember they had AU or NZ as well, why do you need them?)

Even though it is not the fastest, Betternet is a good choice as a free one :)

Thanks. Mainly to watch the local sport. Its all geo-fenced. I cant even watch the highlights

Thanks guys, all good recommendations, will read the reviews. I dont mind paying for the service, more important to me is speed.

but VPN makes the internet speed slower right? or does it depends on the VPN that you are using? if you need a faster internet you need an upgrade

There are quite a few good VPN on the Google Chrome store. You may wanna look into that.

Another vote for Private Internet Access. I've had good experiences with their service across platforms, and going to 200 Mbps+ has introduced little to no latency.

i see. i only use our company VPN and it is making the internet speed slower so i base my comment on my experience

That tends to happen because either the VPN you're using is introducing a lot of overhead (somewhat rare these days but possible), or if the bandwidth available to you on the other side of the tunnel is less than you have routing into it. If I have a 150 Mbps downstream link but my office only allocates 50 Mbps to VPN users I can't go faster than 50 Mbps. They need to pull down the data first at slow speeds, then they can send it to me at fast speed but I still can't go any faster than their connection.

Corporate VPN environments tend to really slow down when there are multiple people using the connection, too. If you have 150 Mbps and they have 500, great. But if that 500 Mbps is split between 50 people and they're all hammering the connection it may act closer to 10 Mbps.

so that is why instead my connection being faster it is happening the other way around. thank you for sharing this. definitely a good knowledge that needs to be shared to my colleagues when they ask me why our internet speed is slower that the average.
