    What is your budget?
The Deathstalker (Depending what model) is most likely the best one to start with if you have a smaller budget. I used it for 4 years, And i still use it for my laptop when i travel. The Ornata Chroma is also very good, But if you plan to be moving around it may not be the best, Since it is not the most portable one out of the two.

If your purpose is to just get a keyboard to plug into your laptop, then ANY of the Razer keyboards will work, and will be okay to use (as per your question).

As to which keyboard, well that is extremely subjective. Do you like mechanical or membrane keys? Quiet or clicky? Do you want RGB LED lighting, or is that customization not a big deal to you?

I use my Razer Blackwidow Chroma Stealth with my laptop EVERYWHERE (that it will fit on my desk when at work at various places), and use it for gaming all the time. Stealth because my wife can't even stand the typing noise of my membrane keys on my MacBook Pro, so green switches were out of the question. I have used my Deus Ex Blackwidow Chroma (styled on the Blackwidow X Chroma) at work a couple of times, but I have to stop doing so until I get some o-rings to keep the keys from bottoming out (the clicks are loud enough as it is).

But it's all preference once you get past the initial part of every Razer keyboard is suitable and actually made for gaming and will work with your laptop.

Keyboards are such a personal experience for everyone, and everyone wants something a little different. First you need to pick if you want mechanical, membrane or mecha-membrane keys along with what kind of switch is right for you if you want to go with mechanical. Then you're looking at choosing a size (full or tournament) as well as lighting choices.

I'd recommend reading multiple topics in our Keyboards section to perhaps get a better of idea of which products might appeal to you, and then if you have further questions you can ask about specific things to help narrow down your search. :)

I don't think everyone is on the same page right now. The thread title talks about a laptop. But in your description you talk about thinking of getting a proper "gaming computer" when you say computer are you referring to a Desktop (Gaming PC) or the Laptop you are still currently using? I think we all need a bit more details before we start jumping to conclusions ~

I mean, it depends on which pc you get, but usually they come with the keyboard that works best with that computer.

Deathstalker is a good keyboard to start, if you used laptop keyboards for several months/years. But you should try Blackwidow keyboard (yes, I know, that keys are higher, but it takes small time to get used) - personally I love clicky keyboards (like Razer Greens mechanical switches), but in V2 you can also choose silent Orange and Yellows.

Ornata is a compromise between low-profile key and mechanical keyboards, but I never had any contact with Ornata, so I don't have any word on this keyboard.

I would get tournament edition for laptops gaming, you will have more space for your mice, you don't use numpad in gaming do you? I actually didn't use keyboard for gaming in my Blade, but because of CES appreciation Sale, i got the Blackwidow X TE, love its look and sound everyday, reminds me my old works place in Japan where my typing made really noise sounds;)

Tournament Editions aren't a bad pick (; It's definitely lighter than keyboards with every button, I have the Blackwidow Chroma Stealth Edition while my younger brother bought the Tournament Edition of the same keyboard. I like having the entire keyboard but I can tell you Tournament Editions aren't bad too ~

Hi, I'm using the Razer bw X TE with no chroma lights. I bought it a few weeks ago, and its great. $70 for a cherry mx blue keyboard with some great quality. I would recommend it highly but if I were you, I'd wait for the razer green switches bc they dont take as much fore to activate. (if you are gaming alot)
I like the keyboard alot, and i got a free mouse with it (there was a coupon code)
