I probably would go GtX 970 I think it's a good price to performance, I just hope the egpu drivers mature a bit. NVIDIA is on beta while AMD has its xconnect out. Seems like they want to attract the EGPU crowd.

eGPUs and VR are very much a thing now.
May want to get a 970 or better as those are the recommended requirements for VR (Both the Vive and Rift).

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm trending towards a Nvidia card since the community has that consensus. Since I plunked down all this cash for the stealth and soon the core, might as well go all in and get something awesome, so I'll probably get the 970 or better. I'll probably hold off for any purchase until April to see if there's something intriguing announced.

I'm taking a big exam in May so my gaming time is severely limited until June. If I have to wait until then anyway I don't need to be too hasty.

Speaking from experience don't order before your exams as it will really impact your studying, plus you can reward yourself for completing your exams.
  5. I'm rewarding myself for doing good this semester with a new car(needed desperately), and the blade 2016. Not sure if I'll buy the core or not. If I do, I may get the 970 just for temporary boast, or I may just get the core and let it sit until pascal comes out. 970s are gonna be cheap after pascal announcement, though they're already cheap.

The Core may also get more discounts in due course.
  7. Does anyone have any experience with AMD's FreeSync? I have a Samsung 4K monitor that supports it, but don't have yet to use an AMD video card with it. I am wondering if it would be worth getting an AMD card (Radeon R9 Fury) for the Core. Would it really make a big enough difference to offset Nvidia? Thanks in advance for your insight.

In terms of value I would think the GTX 960 is a great deal! It's relatively low cost AND you can play most games on ultra at good fps example Alien Isolation on ultra at 90fps

Noob question... I saw that there is a reference/founders edition. What does that mean exactly? Which GTX 1080 would you recommend?

Go with a 980 or 980ti when they drop in price. In my opinion getting a 970 would be a waste since you can get that with the blade anyways. But this depends on your budget.

Well we had reference cards before with the single fan blower style cooler, that is now the founders edition. Nothing from the reference has changed, apart from the design. MSI, Gigabyte, Asus and others will be making their own versions so wait for possible benchmark numbers from those too. Right now ride the hype train but dont commit to one, wait for the numbers to come up.

reference card now changed name to founders edition and it will come with stock Nvidia design. while other company like Asus,Msi,Gigabyte.ETC will change the cover and add extra fans into the graphic and new name.

for me i will just go with a good after sale warranty company and get the founders edition, i dont need those extra cooling system because i dont over clock.

    hope my reply is helpful.
  16. 970 or any new Pascal cards for me.

There is no reason to wait until Vega 10's launching. I'll bet my money to GTX 1080.

I will be getting the GTX 1080 depending on how the core handles it

1080 series are coming, so 980 is a good bet right now. That is if its in your budget =))) if not the 970 is a good bang for the buck card.
