So, as you all know, the Razer Blackwidow has many verisons. I was wondering out of the 2013, 2014, and 2016 editions, which I should get. I don't care about the chromas.

I think EliteVolt is talking about the types of switches each version of the keyboard contains. After the 2013 edition, all Razer keyboards started using their own switches as oppose to Cherry switches

I would prefer Blackwidow Chroma because I didn't feel much different between Razer green switch and Cherry Blue switch. But someone said that Cherry switch is more durable.

Honestly, there's not really a 'best.' It all depends on individual needs and preferences. The answer is different for everyone. You only said you don't care about Chroma, so that leaves:

Which mechanical switches do you prefer? Do you travel? Do you use the numpad often? Do you want to save desk space? Do you clean your keyboard often? Do you need the extra row of macro keys? Do you need the USB pass-through and audio jack? Do you prefer an exposed metal look or a cover with optimized lighting? Do you care about the space bar and "FN" key being backlit? Do you care about backlighting at all? Is cable routing an issue? Any preferences about the LED indicators located at the top right of the keyboard? Do you care about which Windows keycap you receive (Windows 7 style, Windows 8 style)? Do fingerprints bother you a lot? Do you like the oldschool font or the new designer font? etc...

like what @Raijin pointed out it depends on what are your needs. a TKL will be a good option if you are traveling and you wanted to bring your keyboard to work/school/LAN parties. the BW 2016 and X series is grate if you do not use the macro keys. you can should 2014 version if you need the macro so badly. it really depends. it is up to you what keyboard will you use.

I still don't understand why they came out with the blackwidow 2016 and blackwidow x though. Is like competition between the products itself. Nevertheless, all green keys, are in the end, still green switches. So I believe quality are the same. just a matter of preference of design.

i think for newer looks? i agree with you. there is no point on releasing both products in a short time difference. i think they are trying to reach out the market who is a fan of MX switches maybe? and i think they improved the razer switch on the X series

I think it's just an alternative look to give us more choices. Maybe also to entice some Corsair K70 RGB users to switch to Razer:

I'm pretty sure the switch upgrades will be applied to the next iteration of the BlackWidow Chroma too. Another thing to note is that the X keyboards cost less than the original line, so there's that.

The newer switch updates are nice so I feel the newer the better

is it worth trying? haven't thought of buying one yet

well both KB looks awesome for me. i also own a RGB Strafe with MX brown. i prefer to use it at home since it is inside my room. it would be unwise to use the MX blue when somebody is sleeping

Also, i guess for them to use CMX, they are able to sell it cheaper due to better bargaining power since they manufacture in larger quantities worldwide than the greens :)

Not much of a differince between the blackwidows. Chroma or singular colored lightning and silent key or normal keys. Thats it.
