'Cause I love it. I know @kajira used to ski, and we had a fun conversation about it on a separate thread, but I want to know what the rest of the community thinks about it!
I'm curious as well -- it's a sport that I really miss participating in. Hopefully someone out there is enjoying it enough for me as well. lol
That's why you dress properly and go in the spring time. The afternoons up on the mountain can get VERY warm if you're up there in the spring time with the sun and are wearing appropriate clothing. I can remember times I would take my jacket off and tie it around my waist because I'd get too hot. lol
I remember times when I would just be in my pants and a t-shirt, and I was still sweating. Of course, I was doing park laps, and on my mountain, we don't have a park-dedicated lift, so we'd hike all the way back up every time we finished. It was terrible. Just dress warm. Buy hand warmers and stuff if you need to, and once you start moving, you'll feel warmer. MAKE SURE to keep your face protected, especially if there is wind. Frostbite happens when vulnerable parts of your body (your cheeks in this case) are exposed to extreme colds.
I absolutely love skiing. My dad has taken me skiing ever since I was a toddler and over the years I have grown to both love it and get exceptionally decent at it. I usually run black - double black diamonds on a good day.
Nothing feels better when you're on top of the world driven down by snow! So, a definite yes! I'm pretty sure all adventurers would love a day out in the snow. You'd have to be crazy not to!
I went once when I was in high school and absolutely hated it. Although I think if I would have went with family rather than a school trip and was able to learn how to properly, I might have a different point of view.
I never ski, but I want to do it. This year in holidays I'm going to try it. I'm really excited about it.
I really enjoy skiing... I just run into the problem that all my friends are far better than me, it costs a lot, and is a fairly long drive. Other than that, it's wonderful. I also love the fact that you can go really fast without worrying too much about dying. You just stay away from the trees, and everything goes well. One thing that I also like is... well, we call it "tarp skiing" You take a lumber cover, (a "tarp", a tarpaulin) attach ropes to it on the edges and the corners, and run that to a handle in the center. You then have the wind pull you across the fields. It's somewhat like the Kite Skiing that you see people do on water, just on snow. It's wonderful around where we live, because we have gently rolling hills, and a ton of wind. And it's cheap.
