Will we see Blade 14 soon? Thoughts?

Here's one detail that concerns me. Do you think the new 2016 updated Blade would arrive before the start of the school year this fall (that is, roughly halfway through Q3)? If not, quite a few of us would find it necessary to purchase the 2015 Blade.

Yes I do think the Blade update will happen before the new school year because that's after Pascal's slated release. Anyways, we'll find out soon whether Razer plans to break their annual Blade refresh cycle soon.

Honestly if I was in your situation and the new Blade 14" doesn't come out before September, I'd buy some cheap Chromebook or something to keep me going while I waited. That's just me though, I hate buying technology I know will become dated/obsolete soon. In this case, it's the inclusion of USB-C that's a dealbreaker for me. Of course, $400 off is a damn good deal, but if you are someone who is looking at the Razer Blade you're probably willing to pay more anyway.

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't like having to make more purchases than I need to, even if it is cheap. And a Chromebook won't cut it for me. I'm heading into engineering, and I know that at the schools I'm looking at, I will be running a lot of Solidworks, Creo Parametric, and maybe some AutoCAD as well (and thus, I can justify the extra cost). I do appreciate the advice nonetheless.

Just for my peace of mind, could you point me to some articles saying Pascal will be out before the school year starts?

  4. Yep, I totally agree. My macbook air 2013 is still perfectly usable for school atm, I probably won't get much time to game until summer break anyways, so I think it's definitely smart to wait.

Anyone happen to remember what razer did in 2015 when the blade was refreshed? I wasn't in the market at the time so no clue. Did they do deep discounts on the 2014 model then release the 2015 or was it just random?

Also curious to how they approached announcing the '15 Blade. I wonder if they're going to wait for another tech event, or just announce it through insider.

Well, I was assuming you'd sell whatever you were using after purchasing the Blade. That's what I'd do anyway. Universities have laptop loaning and computer labs if you need to run CAD. If I still haven't convinced you, I hope you will at least wait until the latest possible date before you decide to buy something else.

  8. Honestly, for university level of CAD, you don't need a good graphics chip. I just took a grad-level cad course (creo parametric and simulate) and my macbook air's intel hd 5000 handled the level of work just fine. Sure it was a bit slow when running analysis but it's totally doable.

Yeah, I was going to add that my Surface Pro 2 handled Rhino just fine. In fact, the touch screen was very intuitive, so much so that I preferred it to my mouse.

  10. It really is a shame that the blade is only available for the $400 discount in the states, and there are no promotional offers for the canadian market :/ I know the economy isn't so hot right now, but at least give us a $500 CAD discount or so just to keep all your doors open (even $500 CAD would be less than $400 USD, so it still is in the favor of the states, but at least we get something instead of nothing right?). Though I do respect Razer so much for having crazy sweet products, they really do have to work towards establishing a much bigger positive vibe to all their markets and in all areas of their operations.

Still hoping for the 2016 Blade though, its gonna be great, though i'll be getting it from the Microsoft Store in Canada, so again, i'll be waiting a bit longer than those in the States, and then for the Microsoft store to bring the Blade into their Canadian market/stores. I really do hope it comes out in March or April though, and that I can pick one up before the new academic year starts!
