You know the drill by now! I need your collective feedback and awesomeness, is windows 8 useable now or should I just buy it now and wait for the free windows 10 upgrades. Quick in before for the Mac/Linux, *insert obligatory windows/mac/linux sux*, but I'd really appreciate useful feedback. Thanks again beautiful people!

I quite enjoy windows 8.1, essentially its windows 7 with the new metro interface witch can be quite useful sometimes. So yes I would recommend it.

  3. Stick with your windows 7 (or upgrade to 8 if you have xp\vista) and wait for the free upgrade to windows 10. Windows 8 is fine , but from getting the impressions from the tech preview , 10 will be way better

Yeah, does seem a lot better! Trying not to build my hopes up too much for a good OS :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I liked using Win7 and Win8.1, both are functional and are a solid platform for every day use, professionally or for gaming. can't really go wrong with either.

  9. Both are great as they both get the free upgrade to Windows 10. If you already have 7 I would personally just wait until the end of July and upgrade straight to 10.

I actually like 8. At first I didn't, but I got used to it and it has some great features. But seeing as 10 will be free unless you're having compatibility issues with 7 I would say wait.

Well, have 2 partitions, one for windows 7 and one for window 8... or like me, have Linux and Windows 8. Better yet have Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7, be creative... If you don't what i'm saying look it up...

So you aren't gonna make a hard drive partition? A multi-boot of OS's...

Not sure there would be a point for him to do that. I do it occasionally with old laptops and linux but he may have no need to mess with that kind of shenanigans.

I have more than one PC, so I'll only be installing it on one :)

And like @Destrok said, it is kind of a ball ache to do the partitions when I could just do a clean install.

Heh... but it's cool to have Linux to show off, how a pro you are... and Windows 8 to play games... and Windows 10 to again show off to people that didn't even know existed, like me until now...

It is sometimes not easy with Windows 8.1 but it is a solid OS and i used it til Windows 10 Technical Preview came in October last year and i must say just wait a bit. In 1 to 2 Month Windows 10 will be out. Windows 10 is so much better than 8. It is more reliable and will perform better while Gaming than any other Windows OS before. Also dont worry that Synapse might not function. It did always function on my PC. It might need 2 Installs, but than it was ok. TLDR: Wait for Windows 10 because it will be worth the wait.

Since there are mixed comments I am just going to stick to my experience.
Majority of Windows users want the Windows 7 start menu and explorer and the features and smoothness of Windows 8. They will all install Windows 8 and hate it and say that it is crap but they fail to realize that Windows is very customizable and that they can change all these things that they don't like.
I will suggest you to get Windows 8, afaik Windows 10 is a free upgrade and not a free product.
Get Windows 8 and install Startisback, this tool will give you the old start menu, look and lets you skip the start screen at start up meaning you will be running Windows 8 just like how Windows 7 runs in your system.
Windows 8 is good, smooth, almost completely stable and has good RAM management too.
You do realize that Windows 8 and 7 doesn't share any code whatsoever?
Windows 8 is completely different and was built from scratch. Having similar looks doesn't mean they should be the same underneath.

I agree, people bash on the change, but change is good. You have tons of ways to organize your stuff in the Metro UI. Does take a while to get use to, but theres a lot of hidden features in Windows 8.1. Like a mini-start menu. You press Win+X and it pops up a list of OS programs. Also, if you don't like the Metro UI, you could swap it out using a third party software. Also, with the edition to explorer (not iexplorer.exe, or Internet Explorer) having ribbons now, makes it easier to use and do more in less time.
