It is addicitve, especially if you have friends playing it. saying that though, I have played since it first came out and now only play it from time to time. Depending on what level you are playing at a lot of stuff is pre planned (raids, pvp arena etc) so you can end up managing your time around those times. The main reason people play so much is to gear up so they can raid or pvp in between those gearing phases and leveling your toon or 10 in my case it is more of a social aspect that is the addictive side. If you have friends that play and can help you level, gear up and get you into a good guild that would help you out a lot in game. It is a good game made a lot of friends through it, can be addicitve at times but only if you let it

There is a monthly subscription fee but you can get around that now buy buying game time with gold through the auction house I think. Its about $12 a month Australian for me

I think wow Is a great game if you want to have fun and if you want to see the content they have made there is a lot of it. However don't get caught up in the gear treadmill. I think Leveling up to max level and doing all the content thet have at least once is a good and enjoyable experience for any gamer.

However for long term replay value its where it gets tricky once you get to max level you aren't limited by level anymore but by the gear you have and to get better gear you pretty much need to join a decent guild and go kill raid bosses in groups of 10+ people. Raid bosses drop the best loot but you can only kill them once a week. So pretty much at max level PvE content is Kill raid bosses to get better loot so you can kill harder raid bosses. Rinse and repeat week after week till they add new gear and harder bosses that makes you old gear you spend 3+ months farming obsolete . That is the wow Gear treadmill.

PvP on the otherhand is pretty fun and also unbalanced at the same time but if you have good friends to play with its very enjoyable otherwise it can be frustrating as hell.
