Nice! That S340 Elite case too😍

Synapse 3 has to be coming soon!
Just what I've been waiting for!

Razer never disappoints! :D
except when they put laser sensor in their top mice...
Just read through the comments two see if we can use two HDK's and it looks like the answer is no, will there be an update to allow for the use of two HDK's ? I mean the picture that made me buy the HDK's and extra strips clearly uses 6 light strips or more... Or at least a beta testing that would allow for this ???
j.i
so is this some kind of led strip? I can't figure out how long it is...

LED strip length: 50 cm / 19.6 in 🙂 In the tech specs! Also includes:
Extender cable length: 30 cm / 11.1 in
This is the best thing to happen to Chroma since Chroma. Remember folks, this is a HDK (Hardware Development Kit). It's less of a consumer product and more for those that like to tinker with hardware.

Oh Chroma tree, oh Chroma tree,
How I'd like to preorder thee...

Finally! Now time to just rob a bank 😛

Also did they forget this?

We did not. Our press release clearly mentioned it would be rolled out in Q4, which is still the plan. Development and testing takes time. 🙂

Nice. I do have several questions:

1) What's the deal with the oversized 20-pin plugs? I can't imagine all of those pins are needed/active.
2) I see that the strips show dotted lines on them, is that where the strips can be cut?
3) Are the strips standard or are they proprietary? Could we wire other strips, like Neopixels to work with it?
4) Is the maximum limit of leds per channel purely a hardware limit, or is there also a software limit? What I mean is it possible to power the strips from another source and use the box to control them? Can we set the number of leds in the software or is that done through hardware (like an extra wire on the strip).

  • The 20-pin plugs are all active - each LED is controlled in parallel, as opposed to regular LED strips that are controlled in a series. This allows a change in any LED along the strip on demand - otherwise we would have gone for regular LED strips.
  • Yes, the dotted lines indicate the recommended cutting areas.
  • They are proprietary due to the 20-pin connector.
  • The LED per channel is because of the above, 20-pins to control each LED individually.

DID I MAKE A PREDICTION OR THEY ACTUALLY TOOK INSPIRATION FROM MY POST LINKED HERE???

I can safely tell you that it takes time to spec, develop, and create a product, and we were in the process of it during your post 🙂 but your prediction was spot on!

Now they just need to crate wifi or cloud-based lighting for the whole house.

Our goal is to have the whole world in Razer Chroma. Close enough to World Domination.

PTSinger
Yeah, which will now take even longer to get, since the Paid2Play program only offers 5 games per month now.

I think it's a genius move by Razer, though: I've seen a lot of people asking for a Chroma-enabled desk, and this enables that WITHOUT having to produce an actual desk.

We want you to put Chroma EVERYWHERE. We thought having a DIY light kit would let you do that.

I've honestly tried making this portable and walk around with it with a battery USB charger. It's pretty neat. I can imagine an Arduino controller + this working as a portable programmable Chroma kit

I'd really like to get this so I can replace my philips hue led stripes on my desk, however I'm not sure if the lenght will be enough, right now I use 3m for the whole back of my table (it is rather large)
Also, can it be used by a non developer, I rather see myself as a simple customer :D

It's easy to use for non consumers! Just use Synapse 3 (BETA) to control the lighting.

Hoping they'd have an option for a SATA power connector and magnetic strips.

There is a Molex connector - is that an option for you?

I want to buy Philips hue play light bar.

Bro, do I need Philips Hue bridge to connect Philips hue play light bar to Razer Synapse 3? Hoping for your reply. Thanks

Yea. You firat connect hue bridge to your wifi betwork ten light bar to synapse you must be connected to the sane network as bridge synapse recognize it 🙂
I can confirm that Synapse 3 only supports the Chroma HDK and the Lancehead. Seems like we'll be running both at the same time which worries me a bit from cross talk but so far so good.

Based the way the software lays out the strips so far, it appears there may be longer ones in the future. Which is good as I wish to replace my Philips Hue light strip with these permanently.

I would test if it supports more than one controller, but I didn't buy two because I didn't want to invest to much on what is basically a dev preview. Again the way the software address the controller it appears that you can have more than one.

Setup Pic After:

And before with a Philips Hue light strip:

Better After shot with same colors/setup:

Datrat
Is this better than the NZXT Hue +. I am buying case lighting solutions and wanted to know because if so it would match my entire setup.

I Have Both.. and in many ways the nxzt is smarter.. the magnets in the led strips makes fiting the SO much easyer.. abd also the connecter on razers leds are VERY thick.. which makes fitting them hard..

Software wise.. some what like razers solution better.. Nxzt forces you to use they Cam software which all so show at lot of other stuff, which i dont ned og what, men i can not choose only to control the led.. -.-

My main point in buying razers hdk. was to sync my chroma devices with the led. Which I cant at the moment.
because the HDK only uses the synapse 3 beta. which at the moment dont support ANY of the normal chroma devices.. only the lancehead and the bassliks.. which is my biggest concern with razers.. You get no information on when the rest will be added.. no nothing.. no patch notes.. Bad style..

So at the moment I would CLEARLY recommend nzxt.. It seems they just care more about they customers.

Good to know that the Firefly is supported... but a shame about the Blackwidow TE. It seems a bit silly to use Synapse 2 and 3 simultaneously, but I guess they will eventually add more legacy products to Synapse 3?

Joikansai
Will Blackwidow X Te be supported by Synapse 3 in the future? Since I saw BWX listed on the list. Or is there any mechanic(parts) difference between old BWX with recently released three colors options one?

Devs responded to this one already 😛.

Apparently both of those keyboards have different mechanics involved when it comes to the drivers and such, and they still need to re write the code for both of those keyboards so they can work.

Eden_1337
but I guess they will eventually add more legacy products to Synapse 3?

The next update is said to be more mouse based and that is said to come out later this quarter of the year I think, so there are more and more products being added and tested all the time, but they try to iron all the bugs out before they put those products to the new software.

Really hoping soon we can get ambilight for the HDK Kit when it's on the back of your monitor like Asus Halo and NZXT Hue 2:rolleyes:

At this Point im realy disappointed about the HDK.

Yes its nice the LED Quality is realy Nice, and yes its make PC more shiny. But in a "productive" way there is no gaming scenarios to it for more than an indirectly lightning to be the same like 10€LED Strip. Yes Warframe an Deep Rock Galactic can show what it possible but there is still room for improvement. In the most Software solution the is simple not support for HDK.

Its my first Touch with Razer Software policy and im still frightened how incomplete the Featureset in Synapse it.
Its cant be true to relize a Systemsaling Reason to build an Ambilght like System with a Modder Community. Razer does not realy believe to say "Okay Guys here is the Softwareground, make our Hardware complete with the only realy Reason to buy it."

I see in the near Feature a Ebay Sale

Yeah it just feels like they've abandoned it and forgotten that it exists. There has been no new features, the 2 strip extra pack has been out of stock for god knows how many months and the chroma workshop is practically dead. NZXT just announced the Hue 2 packs which look way better and I'm probably switching from HDK to it.

Also did they forget this?

Hi staff,

No word about a synergy with Philips hue bulbs or Philips hue go we already see on some trailers ??

We're working on the integration 🙂 I can't say when for sure though. Meanwhile the Chroma HDK will allow you to expand your Chroma setup for the time being!

@BlackFireDragon @xCryptik I can confirm that you can not daisychain multiple light strips. Each LED on the light strip has an independent connection to the HDK to allow for the the fastest refresh rates of any LED strip you can buy, and to allow for the most granular customization possible.
Userlevel 7
Yeah i also contact few week ago EU support they confirmed too. It's really shame i cant extend strip to longer one like on normal strips hue or lifx z. Mayby next relese will have this feture to extend strips to certein lengh and connect via four ports.
If someone is interested in how the HDK performs with the Razer Synapse Visualizer, here is a video:

Its not the best quality but i think you can imagine, how it works 😃
CaptainKita
Is it possible to have 2? Thanks to zSilver I have two connected, but Synapse only sees one.

I am having this problem with synapse 3 only seeing one HDK, did you ever figure this out? I am trying to sync two with ambient awareness...

Ya, I have to agree there. The picture is misleading. It's a max of 4 strips sadly. It's the same with all products, some people have 2 base stations or 2 Firefly's. You can only control 1 of each item.
In regards to running two HDK devices, is it possible to have synapse 3.0 send the same signal to two usb ports? Or is there a program that would clone the signals being output to a USB port and duplicate those to another assigned USB port?

from what I know synapse only sees one device if two of the same are connected. But I'm not sure if that's the case for any non-razer apps
