All my games suddenly lagging

Hi All,

I have an 2018 Advance Model Razer Blade 15 (GTX 1070, 512GB), even though its like 3 years old, it was doing fine. Only for the last couple of months, that it had started to have these sudden drop of FPS in all my games. I could be playing Witcher on Med-High and getting 50-60 fps, and all of the sudden, it drops to 10 fps. It repeat these drops every few seconds. Even lowering the graphic settings, it still does that. I tried other lesser demanding games, and result was the same. But in the chance of luck, it would work again. Lag disappeared. And then back to lagging again when I restarted the game. This had the battery profile set to the highest performance. So I tried for months to investigate on how why this is happening (Since Razer website no longer allow me to contact support for products outside their warranty, unless you get their Protection Plan).

1. Maybe my graphic needs a new thermal paste.
I thought that since Razer Blade often have a high temperature for both CPU and GPU when doing heavy task on the computer (therefore the fan is like a jet fighter), it probably need to reapply a new thermal paste. So which I did, and nothing changes. Thermal was a little better. I also cleaned out the fan from dust, which again, still lagging.

2. Reset Windows, start clean.
Okay, next I thought maybe I would reinstall/reset windows. Maybe some virus or sth. Nope, still lagging. Still lags even when I have nothing but the games installed.

3. Install Antivirus
Even after restarting windows, I installed antivirus and scanned, nothing came up.

At this time, there was a moment where the laptop was running the fan at top speed and high GPU clock speed when I was idle. Like nothing is running, no programs. So I reset windows again, and that fixed it.

4. Installing Razer Cortex
Might as well try to optimize my laptop and see maybe that helped. it did. Kind of. Instead of every 1 second lag, it become 3-4 second lag.

5. Maybe my external monitor was the issue
Yes, my laptop is plugged in to an external monitor. I played that Witcher on the external monitor, but maybe it's the cables that made it error. So unplugged it, and play it from the built in monitor. Nope still Lag.

6. Maybe its not powered enough from the charger, maybe my outlet is providing enough.
I have a whole desk set up to have the laptop to be plugged next to me, so its still within my reach. And the wall plug is quite a distance from the desk, so I had an extension cable plugged in. So I thought, "ah this could be the issue." I unplugged, move to the outlet and plug it there momentarily. Nope, still lagging.

7. Check for the latest BIOS update
Checked it and mine is already the latest.

8. reinstall an older Nvidia Geforce Drive
Tried to download the original drive that it came with (389.06 driver), still didn't work. So I tried from Nvidia, I was able to get down a few driver lower. Nope still didn't work.

9. Maybe my SSD?
Maybe the SSD is overloaded? So I tried playing the game from a hard drive, but the lag would still happen. (But I have no idea that this does anything to prove that its not working) I also used Crystaldiskinfo to check if the health status was already bad. Its says "good" at 90%. So.... I dont think its the SSD

So far... nothing worked. There are a couple of things that came to mind when trying these out. During gameplay, my Core clock for the GPU was moving up and down inconsistently, even though the temperature was alright, but during idle, the clock core was consistent at 1200mhz (which was maxed). Reading through online and doing research, some says that the issue maybe on the software (Forgot where I found the sources).

I still haven't tried 3 other solution that I thought it could help, reinstalling windows to an older version before it was updated, change the ram (But I have no idea to test yet) and actually getting myself a Razer Core (but the cost is not justified as I don't go out of the house, so I would rather just build a new PC. BUTTTTTT with the current supply and demand issue from both GPU manufacturers and becoming really expensive, Its not really an option. So technically, I have only 2 more solution). But other than that, I have ran out of idea... On a day to day use, the Razer Blade is still working fine. No issue occurred, only when it comes games when the whole laptop lags and inconsistent Core Clocks.

Any other solutions or ideas on how I can fix this? Is anyone else having this issue?

I really don't want to get a new PC due to its being difficult right now. But if its like changing Ram, SSD or other smaller parts, I wouldn't mind to get them instead of spending on a whole PC....
