Razer Kraken Kitty Edition Disconnects/Reconnects frequently | Razer Insider

Hi all! I’ve seen some other posts about this, but I have a Razer Kraken Kitty Edition headset that is constantly getting stuck in a disconnect/reconnect loop. It makes a pop noise before disconnecting then just keeps doing it over and over.

I’ve tried using it with multiple devices, in a hub and plugged directly into the computer, with and without Synapse, on different versions of Windows, all the troubleshooting. It had happened a couple times when I first got the headset, usually just when the audio was too loud, but in the last few months I pretty much can’t use the headset without having audio issues.

I’ve treated the headset very well; it’s fallen on my carpeted floor once or twice but I don’t mandhandle it, bend or mess with the cable, etc. I’ve always kept it on a headset stand on my desk. I got it in 2021 so it’s out of warranty.

Has anyone had luck with a fix or talking to razer support about this? I figured at the price point for this headset it would last a long time if cared for well :(

Cleaning the flux off of all of the connections (like Pistachiofastup750 suggests) with acetone and a q-tip fixed the issue for me. I tested before reassembling the headphones. Unfortunately, when reassembling the headphones, I accidentally pulled a speaker’s wires off of the board. I considered trying to solder the wires back on, but I’m only a low-level hobbyist and stripping back the cloth-like jacketing on the copper and blue-colored speaker wires was beyond me. Besides, I forgot to take a photo, so I had a 50/50 shot at picking the correct solder points to reattach.

I hated ruining the headphones on re-assembly, but I could really use a pair that has bigger ear cups that don’t hurt my piercings anyway, so I’ll just buy another brand.

Hello!

I have also been having this issue, most notably while chatting with someone in Discord and co-oping in a game together. I found another thread where someone listed the exact same symptoms that I have (yet there was no resolution and the thread was closed) so I will repaste that here:

  • Audio cuts out for roughly 3 seconds with an audible pop
  • Headset included microphone mutes itself
  • RGB lights controlled via Razer Synapse flash off and back on quickly
  • If in game, freezes and lagging are often an issue during the audio cut off
  • Headset seems to be disconnected while audio is not present since it does not show up as an audio device and dissapears briefly from Razer Synapse if the app is open

All software is up to date and I have been very good to my headphones - no dropping or damage and they’re only about 3 years old. I also have all my other audio options (monitors, other speakers, etc) disabled so there’s nothing for it to toggle to.

If anyone has any suggestions for how to fix this, I’d appreciate it!

Hello! I can write a guide on how I solved a similar problem.
Attention, any tampering with your headphones may render them inoperative and you perform all actions at your own peril and risk!

Headphones must be completely disconnected from any device
1) You need to remove the ear pad from the left speaker, which includes the USB cable from the computer
2) Unscrew the four bolts
3) Remove the speaker cover
In my case there was a problem with the GL3523 chip.

This is a USB controller. At the factory, after soldering this chip, they forgot to clean the contacts from flux. Over time, the flux degrades and begins to conduct current. There is no longer enough power to power the board and the controller begins to reboot. For this reason, some users find it helpful to turn off the backlight and lower the volume. But over time, this also stops working.
You need to carefully remove flux from the contacts. You can look up how to do this on the Internet.
After cleaning the contacts, the headphones begin to work as they did after purchase.
In my case, the headphones can simultaneously play music at 100% volume, record audio through a microphone and the backlight is on at 80%.

Don't forget to assemble the headphones in reverse order)

Hello !

I can definitely tell you that it’s not because of the volume of the headset, I have the same issue and my volume is always on 20/100,

It is mind blowing how this headset costs so much but has such an annoying issue, I have done everything too to fix the issue but to no avail, I’m definitely not buying anything from them ever again.

Guys!!! Update on the disconnecting headphones situation!!!

IT WAS JUST TOO LOUD!!!!! That’s all it was!!!!! I just turned it halfway down from max volume, and it now works PERFECTLY!!! Don’t get me wrong, this is still an issue as headphones don’t usually do this, but it’s worked PERFECTLY ever since!!!

To double check, I turned it up to max volume while sound was playing, and it disconnected, so it’s DEFINITELY the volume!!!

I seriously hope Razer at least put a warning about the product not to have it on max volume, as it will cause it to disconnect.

I hope this helps you guys as well!!!

Hia everyone!

I pretty much had the exact same issue. I didn’t want to lose the RGB glow of my headset but I wanted to listen to audio without it disconnecting.

What managed to fix my headset was turning down the brightness of my chroma via synapse to around 50 to 70% (depending on the strength of your power supply, I had a 500w before and it was at 60%, I recently upgraded to a 750w and I can comfortably have the levels around 75%) and ensuring my AMD drivers were fully updated (including Windows).

I got fed up of wanting to turn up my music for it to just completely disconnect when it got ‘too loud’. I had this problem for about two years.

I saw my solution on a reddit post. The reasoning they gave was that the RGB/Chroma uses a LOT of power, and it overrides or freaks out at higher audio because it cant share the power evenly across the headset (take this with a grain of salt).

It’s usually because the power supply isn’t powerful enough, but I have no idea why because mine isn’t exactly.. not powerful? lol. I’m not complaining though because it did manage to fix my disconnecting and my headset still looks great.

I’ve dropped mine too many times to count so don’t blame yourself for the disconnects! It’s happening to a ridiculous amount of people ^ ^

It's happening to me too, specifically with the Kraken Kitty headset but it's combined with the Connect module of Razer Synapse. I was playing Baldur's Gate III with Chroma Connect module active. Problem is that is makes a popping sound, disconnects and reconnects after 3-4 seconds, something that doesn't happen if I play through my stereo speakers. I managed to get the issue on the Event Viewer yesterday (I’ll insert them as attachment if anyone wants to give an eye to it, I can't understand them: AppCrashConnect_KrakenKitty). Consider that this happened after I completely reinstalled Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, updated it to the latest drivers and after following the guide for a complete and clean installation of Razer Synapse. The headset works flawlessly without the program but, you know, considering I bought them for the LEDs customization too, it's a pity that it stops working when using Connect. Hope they can fix it, if you need more info, let me know, I'll try to give as much as I can.

I’m not sure if the module automatically adjusts the RGB brightness levels, give turning down the RGB brightness through synapse and see if it fixes anything!

This headset has given me so much trouble. I hope I’ve helped in some way or another.

I also have this issue…it always does the disconnect-then-reconnect whenever sound is made on the PC...

I’ve tried it in different USB ports, reinstalling Synapse, and even repairing all the Razer software (including Synapse) via Window’s Settings…..

It’s absolutely amazing to me that this is happening to ONE HUNDRED POUND headphones…

How do you mess up headphones in 2023?!?!?! HOW?!?!?! It’s not rocket science!!!

I must remember to never buy Razer products ever again…..

And remember, guys...even if they do know how to fix this...this is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT UNACCEPTABLE, especially for how much money we’ve spent...if they were £10 headphones, then it wouldn’t be as outrageous, but still...absolutely shocking…

I guess they’re still good for cosplaying…..

Hi, I am having the same issue too. I made a post about it as well. Popping sound with headset , Razer Kraken Kitty Edition | Razer Insider

I have a Razer Base Station Chroma and thought maybe this was causing issues. I unplugged it for a bit and my headset acted fine. But then it started the disconnect again. Just recently the last few days I can't even update razer synapse lol. It's all a mess. I paid almost $300 for both of these devices. Some reason, nobody can figure out why it's happening. Luckly, I see I'm not the only one having these issues.

I have the same issue as well. Turning off RGB seemed to fix it for a few weeks, but yesterday the disconnect loop started happening again.  I’ve exited Synapse as well but it still happens.

It seems doubtful Razer will do anything to fix this to be honest, as I’ve found posts about this same issue going back a couple years.

I’m having the same issue with my Razer Kraken Kitty. I have these headphones for around 2 years, issue started appearing like a year ago. It helps to close Synapse from tray - to logout from it and stop I mean, but in this case I of course also loose Chroma effect, headphones are just green. But at least sound doesn’t break and doesn’t freeze my PC. And this peak on CPU utilization in Task Manager shows the moment when this lag happens.
