New C Drive SSD Recommendations

Userlevel 2
Hey guys, my computer is 5 years old and still works like the first day I brought it,
However back then the best storage available was 128GB SSD with a 1TB external.
I want to change the 128GB out for something larger (preferably 1TB), any recommendations?

SATA SSD or NVMe M.2 SSD?
Depending on the age of the mobo....the M.2 slot will share a PCIe lane and therefore be limited to the controller of said lane. The bus speed will be set as such. It will also take up 2 SATA ports when using a M.2. If that is the case then you would be better off going with a standard 2.5" SSD.

I would suggest Samsung or WD. A 500 gb or a 1 TB depending on your needs. If a gamer with a lot of games the opt for the larger drive size.

Additionally to what @bassfisher6522 and @FiszPL mentioned, in case of issues or confusion sticking in a SATA or NVME on the computer mobo you can also get an external SSD from Seagate or Samsung.

I personally have used both the external SSD's from Seagate and Samsung, exceptional performance and support and long term usability.

Is this for external storage. If so, have you thought about using a HDD/SSD docking station. It's so much easier and less expensive. I've been doing this for years.

That's a good workaround to use the HDD/SDD dock, i haven't used one yet though i know about it. I'll definitely check it out when i do a revamp for my setup. Thanks:smile_:

I have the Seagate Barracuda Fast SSD on my seconday sleeper machine and the Samsung T5 SSD on the PS4 (attached pics).

What's the read/write speeds on those?
