Hammerhead Hyperspeed Xbox mic issue | Razer Insider

Playing PUBG on Xbox series x, I can hear game sounds but my mic is not working and friends can't hear me. Tried muting and unmute, tried switching dongle to PC then back to Xbox. I don't know what else to do. Btw, audio settings in Xbox menu are greyed out.
I had the same problem when I plugged in the dongle into the XBox while it was on standby. Rebooting the console with the dongle plugged in appeared to help make the mic work. However, the mic is not very sensitive on the xbox and people complain they can't hear me. Now searching the forums to see how people have resolved that if at all 🙂
That worked for me but, the mic randomly works then shuts off on me for 15 to 20 seconds. I feel like a firmware update would probably help. I don't think it's a hardware issue.
As for the mic quality, using it on MS Teams or Zoom on MacOS seemed to produce reasonable audio (I used the dongle set to USB for testing). The story is entirely different when connected to game chat or party chat on XBox. People in the party indicated that audio was quite faint.

One change I made which seemed to help was to go into Party Chat (either on my own or joining an existing party) and from the party options screen unchecking the "Noise Suppression" option. After doing this, people were no longer complaining - though I don't yet have a way to test what the other people actually hear.

Curious to learn whether anyone else has managed to improve the mic sensitivity issue in any way.

Edit Feb 1st 2023 : Despite the "Noise Suppression" setting mentioned above, during another session yesterday, I had the same problems and people couldn't hear voice chat very well (it was very faint as mic gain appears to be quite low). The troubleshooting continues.

2 months later this still seems to be a problem for the xbox 😢 so sad i hope razar can get back to us for help. This is my first razar product so im gonna give it a chance here!

I just got the razer hammerhead hyperspeed xbox and same issue, The mic is not responding as it should.

70% of the time mic dosent pick up my voice and when it does acorrding to my party i sound like I am talking from very far and they can barely hear me.

I dont know what to do, should i refund it or is there a way to fix it?

Do yourself a favor and return them. They will never fix this issue and they don’t care. I use them on my pc sometimes now. They work okay on that but on Xbox the mix just doesn’t work most the time…

Okay, so i’ve had these headphones since their release date last year and discovered this issue very early on and (without going into all the details as it seems we’ve all had very similar experiences with the support team and the lack of info on any sort of firmware update) this is really bugging me that they’re not willing to do anything about the issue or even worse are trying to stay oblivious to it despite all the posts here and on reddit.

I’ve just been through this r/thread from almost a year ago and can see since then the firmware hasn’t once changed - https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/s/ya9DSorshJ

I believe we’re on firmware 1.0.14.0, at least that’s what the iOS app tells me and it doesn’t prompt a further update when pairing them but what i find strange is their site does have what looks to be a newer firmware version: https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6325/~/razer-hammerhead-hyperspeed-for-xbox-%7C-rz12-038202-support-%26-faqs

Firmware version 1.1.6 but when trying to do this from a windows device following the instructions, well this is a whole other issue itself as the laptop / PC recognises that i’m connecting the dongle / adapter as it makes the tone for it and i can even see it when i dig deeper into the connections but it just doesn’t progress from step 2 for me so firstly has anyone tried this or had any success with it at all?

Secondly, as we’ve spoke about this for almost a year across various threads and they’re still choosing to ignore the issue i think we maybe need to do something a little more drastic - i mean these are still licensed by xbox and are still being sold despite not being fit for purpose as they can’t perform as advertised.

To that point, i’ve looked into Citizens Advice and they have a section for reporting someone / a company for being misleading which i think applies here but of course i feel it would carry more weight if there were more of us doing it, site for ref: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/changed-your-mind/if-you-were-misled-or-pressured-into-buying-something-you-didnt-want/

I’m not sure what i’m expecting from this but i can think of 2 scenarios:

  1. The most favourable is that it gains enough momentum that they have no choice but to notice and acknowledge the issue and then give us a proper update and hopefully a fix on the situation.
  2. Or at the very least prevent them from sucking others into the false advertisement of them being able to be used for audio and mic purposes as all seen on their website: https://www.razer.com/gb-en/console-earphones/Razer-Hammerhead-HyperSpeed/RZ12-03820200-R3G1

Sorry for the long message, just reading through and seeing so many more people having the same issue has just really frustrated me especially as we’re a year on and they’re yet to do anything about it.

Thanks for reading.
