My 7.1 surround sound cant turn on.

I got the blackshark v2 X last month and I've been unable to turn on surround sound. It tells me that I need to set my primary audio device to "Speakers (7.1 surround sound) but that isn't an option. I cannot even open the dropdown list of devices, it's just grey. I've tried looking at tutorials online and messing around with the mmsys.cpl stuff, but nothing has worked. If anyone else knows the solution to this problem it would be much appreciated.
