Razer blade 14 2016 won't boot beyond bios | Razer Insider

Hello everyone,

I could not find a razer customer support email to ask, so I created an account to ask here.

I was given a broken razer 14 2016 laptop with the gtx 1060, and I have been trying to fix it for awhile now so any advice is appreciated. The run down of the problem is basically the laptop will post no problem, unless an m.2 drive is plugged in then it won’t boot at all, so all my testing has been with the m.2 drive removed. The first steps I did was trying to reset the bios to factory settings. This did not work. Any attempt to boot a linux or windows external usb would fail. The next thing I tested was using memtest86 to test if the ram on the board was alright. Interestingly the test would only work when smp was set to sequential, any attempt at parallel processing would crash memtest86. I was able to run memtest86 for over a full pass using sequential processing so ram is not the issue. Realizing that smp might be the issue on the board I tried booting a linux live usb with smp disabled. This got a bit farther in the boot processed but still crashed. I then switched to booting with smp disabled and using run level 1 and I am able to get linux to a command prompt. My current theory is that the firmware on the board might be messed up do to a failed update (as I do remember the previous guy who gave me the laptop said it died during an update), but the only way I could find to install firmware on the board was by using a windows program on the board itself. As I can’t get Windows to boot this is not an option. Is there a way to reinstall firmware to the board without booting into an operating system, or from a linux shell? This laptop currently has more powerful specs than my current computer, so I would love to get it working.

Thanks,
