When I connect my RB14 to an external monitor (Asus ProArt PA279CV) using the cable that follows the monitor, the Monitor's USB-C has the parameter:
- Supports DisplayPort 1.2
- PD charging capacity maximum 65W

**I set the resolution to 4K /60Hz/10 bit color in Windows


The problem is that when my RB14 battery is below 100%, I just plug in this USB-C cable (I hate having to plug in 230W when I don't need it) and the connection often disconnects and resets itself, sometimes the screen on the laptop says USB-C “device not recognized” and I had to change to USB-C on the opposite side.
BUT when I plugged in the 230W brick everything was fine.

If anyone has the same problem as me, please tell me what the cause is, note that my ASUS ProArt monitor is completely fine and I tried a laptop like the Thinkpad X1 Carbon gen 10 and everything is fine via USB-C

I have a thought: when the RB14's battery is not full, USB-C both charges the battery and communicates with DisplayPort with 4K /10 bit /60Hz requirements, so there is a conflict in USB-C: charge PD and DisplayPort at the same time. I don't think it's because the external monitor is overloaded at 65W because ASUS is an experienced computer company.

Not sure if it helps but I’m seeing something similar with my LG 27UP850-W.  It claims up to 96W PD.  Sometimes I could plug my Blade in and get display plus charging, sometimes it would constantly toggle the display on and off, as though plugging and unplugging the device, about every second or two -- “bee-beep….. buh-beep….” over and over.  I couldn't figure out why it worked certain times but not others until I saw your post, but it could very well be happening only when the battery is discharged below a certain level.  After reading your post I tried hooking up my regular (230W) power supply, then the monitor, and it immediately got a stable connection.  Interestingly, I was able to unplug the 230W supply after a minute or two and it’s still getting USB power with a stable display connection.

 

If the initial connection problem is actually due to battery state, I don’t know whether to complain to Razer (so that they aren’t over-drawing PD power even when the battery is low) or to LG (because the monitor is freezing up when trying to deliver at max rating).
