Razor blade 3.55mm audio input/output issues

I have a mic that uses a 3.55mm port, but when I hook it up to the laptop, the sound I hear is great, but my output audio sounds like I am in a fish tank or speaking from an old ww2 radio. I've updated the sound drives, uninstalled/reinstalled them. I've tinkered around with the settings and mic distance from my mouth, but nothing seems to work. I'd appreciate any advice! My mic is a Bengoo G9000 gaming headset The user manual says to use a splitter with a laptop/pc, but the user manual for the razor blade says it can handle a 3.55mm jack for both input/output audio.
