Red Dead Redemption 2 Not Recognizing UHD Screen on 2023 Razer Blade 16 RTX 4090 i9 13950HX Dual UHD 120hz and FHD 240hz Screen

I have the new 2023 Razer Blade 16. For some reason Red Dead Redemption 2 will not recognize the 3840x2400 resolution from the onboard screen, which is the new dual UHD 120hz and FHD 240hz screen.  The highest resolution I’m able to select is 1600p.  No other game I’ve tried seems to experience this issue as of yet, but I don’t play an enormous amount of games to test this. When I connect the laptop to my 3840x2160 television, I’m able to select that resolution in the game’s settings and the game plays beautifully.  I’m positive I am using the UHD screen when I launch the game, I have switched back and forth between the two UHD and FHD modes to no resolve.  I have also used Geforce Experience to manually set the resolution to 3840x2400, which is an option it gives me in that app.  But when I launch the game, it always reverts back to 1600p, with no option to go higher.  In the game’s settings, I had to set the graphics api to directx 12, the default was Vulcan, but that just gave me a tiny window with the highest resolution option of 1080p. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and the Rockstar Games launcher.

Did you ever figure out a solution? I’ve tried at least a dozen different “fixes” but none of them seem to make a difference. No matter what the highest I can display in RDR2 is 2560x1600.

Unfortunately not, I was told it “should” be addressed in future updates (not sure on which software). But, I did however figure out that you can go to windowed mode in the settings. Then expand the window manually with your mouse, then switch windowed borderless. You can’t get quite 3840x2400, I believe it’s like 3840x2200 something, with a little bit of room at the top and bottom of the screen. It’s the best solution I’ve figured out so far, and it’s definitely playable (I changed by desktop background to pure black and that way I can see any borders on top and bottom). Just rather annoying. Hope this helps.

Have you found a fix yet? I’ve spent the last two days in frustration trying to simply get the display correct.. I don’t know why it’s such a big issue.. seems like it could be fixed so easily… I’ve tried everything.. uninstalling/reinstalling, GeForce display settings, NVIDIA display settings, turning off Optimus, steam commands, RDR2 settings file. NOTHING works.. this is so disappointing. A 5 thousand dollar gaming machine should not have problems running games.

Hello, just want to let you know I think I’ve found a fix.. i made sure auto HDR was on, when auto hdr gets enabled, another settings gets enabled with it. Leave it enabled. I also downloaded razer Cortex afterward. In the Launch optimizations for RDR2 I set the desired height and width so -width 3840 -height 2400 and loaded game up from cortex and it worked! It set my desired resolution and was now able to play full screen 3840 X 2400

Razer cortex keeps crashing my game.

I was able to fix the cashing by changing the game to Vulkan but I still couldn’t get it working. The game couldn’t even render on full screen. Can you share you settings ?
I have the 4090 model and its a shame that I can even play RDR2.

HDR looks really bad on mine.  Also where in Cortex are you able to change the height and width? I dont see that option

Here is the fix: Go to Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings\system.xml change windowed value to 2 screen height value to 3840 and screen width value to 2400(Also the windowed screen values) also change <API>kSettingAPI_Vulkan</API> to <API>kSettingAPI_DX12</API> doesn’t work with vulkan API . Then save go into properties of system.xml and tick read-only. Load the game up check graphics settings resolution should be native now. Then minimise the game go back to system.xml untick read-only go back onto game enable all desirable setting eg: dlss then apply them then finally change system.xml back to read-only and boom bit annoying settings should be fixed but you may have to repeat these steps sometimes.
