Screen dims when open more than 1/3 razer book 13 | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

Hello, my screen just started to go dim when I open it past a certain point on my laptop for some reason. Tried to reset it, nothing, tried to update drivers and nothing. Still works with external display and the touch screen works. It is very dark but you can barely make out stuff on screen but not really.

Here is a video I just made: https://instagram.com/stories/owen.trapp/3109415955718192337?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng==

Please help!

Hi OwenTrapp

Can you upload the video to Google Drive or on YouTube and PM me the shareable link? Please include the serial number so I can validate its model and kickstart a support ticket to help you escalate your concern to the systems team for advanced resolution or a repair request if necessary. Thank  you!

It sounds like you're experiencing a display issue with your laptop. The dimming of the screen when you open it past a certain point could be due to a hardware or software-related problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. **Brightness Settings**: Check the brightness settings on your laptop. Sometimes, the display may appear dim due to low brightness settings. You can usually adjust the brightness using function keys (e.g., Fn + F5 or Fn + F6) or through the Windows settings.

2. **Graphics Driver**: Ensure that your graphics driver is up to date. You mentioned that you tried updating drivers, but it's important to make sure you have the latest driver installed for your graphics card.

3. **Power Settings**: Check your laptop's power settings. It's possible that there's a power-saving feature causing the screen to dim when the lid is at a certain angle. Adjust the power plan settings to prevent this.

4. **Display Cable Connection**: If you're comfortable with hardware, you might want to check the display cable connections. It's possible that a loose or damaged cable is causing the issue. However, this may require disassembling the laptop.

5. **Update BIOS**: Sometimes, updating the laptop's BIOS can resolve display-related issues. Visit the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop model.

6. **External Monitor**: Since you mentioned that the laptop works with an external display, this suggests that the GPU (graphics processing unit) is functioning correctly. It's likely an issue with the laptop's built-in display.

7. **Backlight or Inverter**: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there's a problem with the laptop's backlight or inverter. These components can sometimes fail, causing dimming or flickering screens.

Given that the touch screen is still functional and the external display works, it's more likely to be a hardware issue related to the laptop's internal display components. If you're not comfortable with hardware troubleshooting, I recommend contacting the laptop manufacturer's customer support or a professional technician to diagnose and repair the problem.
