Synapse notifications not working

Synapse notifications are currently not working with my game open, even though the game is windowed. Previously I had issues with the notifications, and after a repair of the software, it worked again. Disabling/enabling the notifications has no effec. I do not think repairing the installation on a regular basis is a viable solution. Is there any other way to fix the notifications? I am especially wanting the profile switch notifcation to be available.
