BlackWidow V4 75% - replacement for faulty orange switches | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

Hey everyone,

I've noticed a frustrating trend with keyboards using Razer's orange switches—they tend to become faulty after just a few weeks of use, and mine was no exception. For those of you who love the keyboard itself but are dealing with faulty switches, what replacement did you opt for?

I'm eyeing Gateron switches as a potential solution, but I'm unsure which ones to choose. Ensuring vivid RGB lighting remains vibrant is preferable for me, so I'm leaning towards clear switches. I'm open to either linear or tactile feedback, though I did enjoy the feel of the orange switches straight out of the box, and I've aleo used linear switches before this keyboard.

Here are the options I'm currently considering:

- Gateron Baby Kangaroo 2.0
- Gateron G Pro Yellow 3.0
- Gateron G Pro Red 3.0
- Gateron Jupiter
- Akko V3 pro Silver Switches

I'm particularly drawn to these options because they come pre-lubed, which is a nice bonus. From what I've read, they're among the best and most commonly used Gateron / Akko switches, but has anyone tried them specifically with this BlackWidow model? Definitely saw few youtube reviews, but finding someone with the same prebuilt prebuilt keyboard trying and comparing them would be nice. I'd love to hear your experiences and recommendations!

@Spartanwill and @shaynawilson  Hi, so major update here after 7 or so months. In as little words as possible I ended up buying a completely different keyboard.

So first I bought another set of razer key switches (thinking this was the problem). Got the green ones, originals from Razer. Tried them out and after a couple of days they gave me the same issues. So I thought “maybe it’s the brand, I’ll try another brand for key switches”. This time a bought a cheap knockoff and tried them out. Same scenario. Worked fine for a couple of days and gave me the same issues after.

Finally I bought a different keyboard entirely and tested out all 3 switches. The original orange “faulty” ones. The newer original “faulty” green ones and the “faulty” knockoff ones, all using my same new keyboard. They all worked perfectly. So yeah, not the switches but the keyboard itself. Very sad a premium company is not making a recall for their faulty product with full refund, but it’s whatever.

Hope this helps and avoid buying the Razer BlackWidow v4 75%

@Spartanwill I'm not op, but these switches are notorious for being faulty. Im not sure what issues you are having, but for me my keys were double pressing random letters all the time when i single pressed and was causing me to not even be able to type a sentence without there being double letters in every word.

I was able to file a claim,  which was answer some questions and send them a video. If its within the one-year (or two i cant remember) warranty, they should send you a pack of 36 switches to use to replace any that are faulty. This is what they did for me, fixed my double key-pressing issue with the faulty switches, and i didn't have to pay for anything.

I have only replaced the switches that were acting up, and i havent needed to replace those new ones after putting them in yet, but occasionally I still have to switch one of the ones I havent replaced, which is still annoying.

I think in the end I too am going to end up getting a different brand of switches , but atleast i have some replacements for the faulty ones while i look around at different brands of switches

I highly recommend if you are having any issues with the keyboard at all to reach out for a claim. If it turns out to be a keyboard issue, ive heard other people have been able to get a replacement sent to them as well.

Any update on the switches fixing the problem?

Hi, so I too bought a blackwidow 75% and it became faulty within a couple of months. Right now, the keyboard is 2 months old and more than half the keys have chattering or simply don't register. I knew the switches were the cause and decided to buy new ones from razer themselves because of matching and fitting the keycaps, compatibility issues with other brands. I bought green switches V3 and same problem appeared after a couple of weeks. Key chattering and non registers. Now, I have strong suspicions about it not being the color of the keycaps, but the brand. Don't get me wrong, I am a razer fanboy, but key swithces have failed me far too many times. I am just hoping this issue is not due because of the keyboard itself, so I am planning on buying another set of key switches and trying it out. Maybe some cherry brown to match razer orange that I like. I will let you know once it's installed. Anyone else any suggestions or pointers?
