Downloading vs. Streaming

Since this could apply to other things, I thought I'd put it here. Of course everyone here has downloaded media, but are there times when you decide to just stream it instead of saving it to your hard disc? If so, why? Additionally, which of the two do you prefer and why?

Personally, I prefer to download media to my hard disc when I can. I think it's because, no matter what happens to my internet connection, I'll be able to watch whatever shows I have downloaded. But there are times (especially with anime or music) where a show is just too long and I can't justify taking up the disc space. Generally, if it's more than 15-20GB, I'm gonna stream it. Sometimes I'll cave and download it, though. However, when it comes to western cartoons, movies, or TV dramas (western or otherwise), I tend to stream them more often than I download them. There are, of course, exceptions to this, like if I can't find a stream of something I'll end up downloading it. Sometimes if I really want to see an anime, I'll stream it while I'm downloading it, too. I download all the music I listen to my hard disc...I really just don't see the appeal of programs like Spotify, since I like to be able to take my music with me when I go out.

How about you, Insiders?

imma go with downloads
If you asked me about 3 years ago, would be downloads 100%. Now with fibre internet access (decent download/streaming speeds), a range of streaming services to choose from and content readily available (usually 24 hours after live air), I say streaming. I find that 99% of the time, I can find something I want between the streaming platforms that I subscribe to.
Depends on the service. To watch content such as TV series, movies or videos, streaming the way to go for me. Since I'll only be watching them once, spending time downloading is simply not worth for me.
However for video games, downloading is definitely the way to go. Usually my internet speed isn't that great, so streaming games isn't going to be a pleasure experience, specially in multiplayer games.

download for now but maybe if the streaming will be get better than streaming
So recently there was a city festival nearby and this pressured my network very much. Almost nothing worked at that time. Soundcloud couldn't buffer my favorite mixes and Youtube was lagging even on 360p! The festival went for like a week. It came like a lesson... 🙂
