Mouse, it’s always mouse (at least for FPS games) :)

Ofc whole set is very important: Mouse + mousepad + headset + keyboard. But when I can only choose 1 thing then answer is above :D

A good Audio device and a monitor. If you are playing any video games, you need at least a 120Hz monitor and a mouse that doesn't feel like it's from Temu. Don't buy anything off Temu....

I recommend LG OLED B7/C9 (or newer from this series) + GTX GPU = G-Sync :) I have LG OLED B7 + Lenovo Legion Y540 with GTX 1660 Ti. With this set, I play every game on Ultra/Very High 4K 120hz + HDR (if supported) ;) btw. without OLED TV my Legion is not so strong anymoreWhy OLED and these particular models? The B7/C9 series and above are the combined efforts of NVIDIA and LG to create the best gaming set! What are the benefits of combining this set? Everything you could dream of for comfortable gaming :) The OLED technology itself is practically devoid of Input Lags controllers at the level of 0.1s delay. In this set you get - 4K native/progressive 120hz in games, great HDR, low input lag, ULTRA DEEP HDR, Low lattecy and much more. Remembering about the sound, after subscribing you get great sound in games with Dolby Atmos (built-in speakers) without the need for a soundbar ;) This model is also compatible with GeforceNow. So you need an OLED TV + Gefore GTX GPU and a beer, this set does not need a strong CPU and a lot of RAM OLED makes the games run smootherPlus, of course, DeathAdder v2 and Pad Controller ;)

Definitely a good mouse! Can’t game if you can’t click! Being able to have a good range to adjust the sensitivity is crucial!

To me as a writer, with dual lifestyle in gaming. I would prefer to splurge the laptop’s monitor quality to be an upmost priority,  maintaining the eyesight not to get sore is very important to me, when using in long period of time. Keyboard would be on the second place as I be typing most of the time. And lastly, the computer cooling system not get overheat in a long run.

The best invest for gaming peripheral should be the monitor, as most of the monitor should last for more than 3 years. Therefore a slightly expensive gaming monitor is worth to invest for a long run.
