Bug: Blackwidow V4 Pro Volume Wheel Scroll Issue

Cody0866

Description:
plugged into a USB 3.0 Port connected directly to the PC
When the Synapse Beta, or Synapse 3 program is running, the volume wheel fails to change volume and instead acts as a mouse scroll wheel; manipulating pages instead of changing the volume. Issue will not manifest if the program isn’t running.

Expected Behavior:
Scrolling the roller back (“Counter clockwise; away from the user ”) increases the system volume, scrolling the roller forward decreases the system volume.

Actual Behavior with Synapse (Beta/3):
Scrolling the roller back causes a scroll wheel input at the position of the cursor, sending a command to scroll upward as though the mouse scroll had been utilized, without interacting with the audio system, vice versa.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Boot into OS
2. Allow Razer Synapse Beta to load
3. Wait until the keyboard is recognized by the system
4. Use the volume roller.

Loaded Peripherals:
BASILISK V3 PRO
KIYO PRO

Notes:
Rebinding does not resolve the issue.

Technical Details:
Synapse Version 4.0.0.419

Connected via USB 3.0 (Direct to MB, “Blue” port)

Had similar problem with BlackWidow V3 keyboard - but for me the volume up/down scroll acted as mouse scroll up/down before synapse has load all the modules. After Synapse loads - everything were OK.

Strange, because windows has native support for media buttons (volume up/down). So probably Synapse is somehow messing with the keybinds stored into onboard memory...

I am also having the same problem. The volume wheel acts like a scroll wheel on my mouse and changing the settings to something else and back did not correct the problem, still scrolls.

Same problem here.  I suspect that, in my case anyway, it’s related to using a Logitech G9x gaming mouse.  When I disconnect that and use a Logitech M705 mouse, I don’t get this behavior from the keyboard.  Not an acceptable resolution; but, maybe a useful hint.

I was having the same issue.  However I found a fix that worked for me.  When you click on the scroll wheel in synapse, then click one of the functions to change, I think it defaults to the “Multimedia” page on the left side.  I went up to the “Dial Multi Function” tab and there the dropdown showed “volume” and the save button was bright green giving me the option to actually save it.  I clicked save and it was immediately fixed.  Now sure why it reverted in the first place.

I’m pretty sure that the config data that Synapse saves gets corrupted and there are different ways to reset it. It happened to me again over the weeked and I did pretty much what @Guyo1 just tried without success. In the end, I had to uninstall synapse (synapse 3 beta, in my case) and the device and reinstall.

I have a few issues similar to above white hardwired OR via wireless razer dongle. Both connected directly into PC USB 3.0 port:

  1. Volume tends to increase/decrease drastically without touching it.
  2. Volume button scrolls on the page I am on instead of doing whats actually required (increase volume).
  3. Increasing/decreasing volume is quite slow, it does it in 1-2 incremements and have to spin it to get to 100.. actually a waste of time at this point and I just use the windows volume button.

Would not be surprised if the Synapse bloatware was the main problem here.

EASY FIX!!!

I have been having trouble with this for awhile and idk why the bug happened in the first place. It doesn’t happen with my Blackwidow V4, only my Blackwidow V4 Pro.

The solution to fix this is to remap the wheel: invert the volume up to volume down (normally scrolling up would increase the volume, remap to decrease the volume.) the do the same with the volume down mapping. (remapping the scrolling down function to increase the volume.) Then restart your PC. Next, remap your scrolling wheel to its default, but don’t select the default  tab. Instead, go to the Multimedia tab and select the volume controls from there. Then restart your PC.

It worked for me, pls let me know if it works for you.

@iFamished I thought for a moment this had worked for me, but then synapse started. The fact is, exiting synapse fixes it, and starting it up makes it not work again. You can do that over and over. Exit synapse (from the menu in the system tray, not just closing the window), and the roller will control the volume. Start synapse, and the roller does vertical scroll, and synapse seems unable to remap it even if you define new mapings for it.

It didn’t do that until recently, and the last synapse update was on 7/10/2024, so that must be when the bug was introduced. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon.

@ChooseYourMasks Interesting. It worked for me, but since then I have just gone back to using Synapse 3 bc of other issues. Sorry!
