Does Bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0+ audio work?

It is finally time to upgrade my desktop speakers. I have a Kraken headset, but still like to listen to full room speakers for some game play or listening to music when I work. I am trying to avoid the old analog 3.5mm plug and was looking to digital was to get to the speakers. I have been reading up reviews on speakers systems and keep coming back to using Bluetooth for 5.1 surround systems. Has anyone use Bluetooth? Was there any lag or was it good enough?
