I have an essential deathadder, I just installed Synapse 3. Is it necessary to leave Synapse 3 app running in the background? How do I check for firmware for my mouse?

No firmware updates for DA Essential. If you're using profiles, keybindings etc.. - yes - Synapse must run in the background.
