KVM switch with Hub and laptop dock - laptop stand and headset base station chroma stand issues | Razer Insider
Skip to main content

I started working from home. I bought a KVM controller, to switch between my work laptop and personal PC. I wanted the chroma items to work when I switched between the two. The laptop is connected to a dock. The pc and Dock are connected to the KVM via HDMI and USB. Considering that I have 10 chroma items I have to use a powered USB hub to connect all of the chroma devices which are connected to the KVM.

Everything worked well until I connected the headset base station stand and the Chroma laptop stand. When the PC is on the stand is recognized and lights up but when I switch to the laptop the stand and base station are not recognized. I tried connecting directly to the dock or laptop and it works. But then it will not work for the PC because the hub is the central connection. I thought that the issue was the hub in both devices but I am not sure. Trying to get around this where everything would work. There are other razer stuff I like but I would have the same problem. Any ideas?

The issue likely stems from the KVM losing connection to your Chroma devices. Here’s what you can try:

  1. Use a KVM-compatible USB Hub: Look for a hub that works well with KVMs or has dedicated high-power ports.
  2. Direct USB Connections: Connect key devices like your headset or laptop stand directly to the laptop/PC, bypassing the KVM.
  3. Separate USB Hubs: Use two separate USB hubs, one for each system, and manually switch when needed.
  4. Update Chroma Software: Ensure Razer Chroma software is installed and updated on both systems.

This should help maintain functionality across both systems.
