Lower life expectancy if using dedicated GPU mode all the time
Hello, I have a simple question, and perhaps a very "noobish" question.
I have the new Razer Blade Base 2021 (3070), and I am curious regarding life expectancy / wear and tear when it comes to NVIDIA optimus (integrated GPU) vs Dedicated GPU.
I prefer having dedicated GPU selected as it gives my laptop screen the ability to utilize the 165hz, which is a pleasure working with. This is even when just browsing, meaning 100% of the time the laptop will be in dedicated gpu mode.
Is there any issues with having the option dedicated GPU mode selected always on? As in, is there any risk for lower life expectancy, due to the main GPU always being on, even during light loads? Or is this completely irrelevant, and the only thing I should be thinking about is the battery life?

Yes, and no.
Previously notebooks had only 1 GPU - iGPU or dedicated. You had no choice to change GPU on-the-fly like in modern notebooks.
Statistically more failures were on laptops with dedicated GPUs. For example there were laptops series that were faulty by design (for eg. hp pavilion dv6000 series) - there was problem with soldering on boards with dedicated GPU (iGPU was fine).
Of course, there will be lower life (but it also depends on the usage - will be it used for gaming, mining, video editing etc).
On the other side I'd not bother about it, because gaming laptops have good cooling solution, and you've paid for the GPU, so just use it. Just keep it cool - maybe invest for some laptop stand with cooler, so it'll slightly cool the bottom of the laptop, provide better air circulation.
When it comes to battery life - of course better life will be on iGPU. For better battery "vitality" I'd charge it max to 75-80%.

FiszPLThank you for your reply. I think i will keep it in Optimus mode for as much as possible. The only annoying part then is if i want to work on my couch for an hour or so, I then have to restart the computer because of the switching.
