Razer Blade 16, running hot...but is there an actual fix?

Hi Razer community

I have a blade 16 with the 4090 and it’s been as hot as 107c on the package, but that is the heat spiking. Depending on how I prep it, the average temps will range from 84-95c.

I always elevate it with my Razer stand and I’ve under volt with -125.

I always run the fans on full.

Razer support has offered to “service” my laptop and even replace it. But i’m hesitating because i’m not sure a service or replacement will be better, temp wise.

My question is, will a different blade 16 be any different? They all seem to run very hot if you choose cpu boost/gpu high, no matter what. even with the settings above, low/low still spikes up to 98c.

While the spikes are high, should we just focus on the averages and ignore the spikes?

I’ve never seen some official guidance from Razer on average temps vs spike temps and what range is normal and what range warrants a service or replacement.

My Blade 15 was running so hot it fried the motherboard within 2 months of purchased. Sent it in for repair and even now it still runs VERY hot ALL of the time. If anyone knows any way to cool it down, I’d really appreciate it!

Same. I am sending in my Razer 16 with 4090 for overheating and running poorly. It was to hot to game on even at 1920x1200 .

Same for me.  I had mainboard and chips replaced. now it’s quieter again but i’m scared to run it at over 80 degrees anymore. it defeats purpose of having it.
what are some solutions? I also elevate it with a fan blowing on it and have my internal fans at maximum.

here’s my reddit post on subject: https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/1bnij1t/razer_blade_16_2023_thermal_issues_resting_gpu/

Blade 16 has same issue. Over all I absolutely love the promise of the Blade line - everything i could want in a laptop.  But.  And this is a HUGE but…

Within a year the MB began overheating to the point where it shuts down. Razor wants 3K (plus diag fix) to fix, and its new at Best Buy for $2995.

Repasteing helps , but is only a short-term fix, but only for a few months until it finally died completely.

For my part, I will never own another Razor product, and i strongly recommend reading all the reviews about Razor heat related reliability issues.

Yea, laptops do run warm under load, but generally not so much if you're not gaming.  in no case would I expect it to power off surfacing the web!!  If you search online, the Blade 16 has a plethora of complaints about heat.

Honestly with the increase in post where folks are reporting heat sink failures, I personally, I think the 16 is just a bad design, or else has a quality issue with the heatsink being used.  Course YMMV...

I’ve had a similar experience with my Blade 16, and honestly these laptops are known to run hot due to the slim design. Short thermal spikes (like 105–107°C) are pretty common, but what matters more is the sustained average. If your temps are averaging in the mid-80s to mid-90s under full load, that’s actually within what most owners report.

Razer usually considers a replacement only if throttling becomes severe or if temps are constantly pegged at the max. Otherwise, small spikes can usually be ignored. If you want to monitor trends better, I suggest checking tools like HWinfo and logging temps over long sessions.

By the way, I put together a guide on managing system temps and checking performance health here: NOL Card Balance  — while it’s more focused on user tools, the monitoring principles apply the same way for laptops too.

Hey there,

This is a common issue with high-performance laptops. It's smart to be cautious about a replacement, as a new one might have similar thermal performance.

You're right to focus on average temperatures rather than spikes. Spikes are normal, but sustained temps of 84-95°C are definitely on the high end, though not unheard of. The CPU is likely boosting until it hits its thermal limit and then throttling.

A professional repaste with better thermal paste is the most common fix and what Razer's service would likely do. Another option is to manually adjust the CPU's power limits (TDP) in a tool like Throttlestop or similar software. This can significantly lower temperatures with a very small hit to performance.

Before you send it in, you can try running a stress test to get a better baseline for sustained temps and compare with other users. Ultimately, these thin laptops trade some thermal performance for a sleek design.

This is the best menu i have ever seen that great from insider razer running really good thing near me,
