i remember it being advertised as 8k? now it says 1k.

    It may be a firmware/software or product-version difference. Check Razer Synapse and update the keyboard firmware first; if it still only shows 1K Hz, Razer Support should confirm whether the CS2 edition actually supports 8K polling.
