vi0cs51They dont compete in anyway. they both have laptops thats about it and unlike the blade you can customize the alienware. I still prefer the blade but razer is a peripherals manufacturer not a pc manufacturer. I have 19 razer items and an alienware and neither one is shamed.
Build your own systems like the razerblade. Put Alienware to shame further. Blackwidow TE chroma. Work with DX Racer or build your own chairs. Also - mouse pads need an over haul.
Alienware R4 ALX
(I7 3820, 16 gb corsair dominator ram, 3x samsung 250gb evo ssd,
Gigabyte G1 970, Sound blaster Z sound card)
LG 34" 34UC97 ultra wide IPS monitor, Logitech Z906 5.1 Speakers, Seinheiser 363D headset, Corsair K70 Keyboard, Stinky Footpad, Asus N66U Black Knight router, Razer Orbweaver, Razer Oroboros, Razer Destructor 2 mousepad. On second machine: Razer Black Widow Dragon age edition Keyboard, Razer Imperator mouse, Razer Vespula mouse pad.

It is important to realize that there are certain products that razer will never make as they are too far outside their wheelhouse or it is an unprofitable market to enter as a third party vendor. From a BUSINESS perspective i think we will or not see the asked for products for these reasons:
#1-SSD's- all but 3 or so companies do not make their own ssd's. Corsair, Kingston and crucial do not make their own ssd's and buy their ssd's from a single source. Razer would not be wise to enter a market where their distinct style could not be seen and where their legendary quality could not be enforced.
#2-MONITOR-I think a monitor stand is more likely as the monitor market is not actually a profitable one and like ssd's few companies make their own product. Besides their styling razer has little to offer this segment. i think a monitor stand or speaker bar, or surge protector that the monitor sits on would be more likely.
#3-CHAIR..YES YES YES... this is the perfect market for razer. Few quality control issues, and an AMAZING platform for razers style.
#4-PHONE.... wow why would anyone wish this customer service nightmare on razer. Phone cases maybe...phones... will never ever happen
#5-PROJECT CHRISTINE-Will never happen. If it was profitable it would have launched. The issue with the project christine was that manufacturers of the peripherals that went inside the pods would never agree to a form factor. That and the price for upgrading and adding modules was very high. The luxury case market is VERY small and profit is made from numbers not margin.
#6-FLIGHT STICK- Of course, YES. I am actually shocked razer has not come out with one. Flight stick people are insane about their hardware. And the market tends to attract older geeks with deep pockets.
#7-WEBCAM.-Absolutely easy to make, inexpensive, would integrate with razer comms, homerun product.
#8-RAZER SQUISHY-YES i want razer stress balls so when i nerd rage i can throw something without costing me an arm and a leg. Also a Min-Liang Tan bobblehead to go next to my darth vader bobblehead.
#9-EDGE LIT MOUSE PAD- Imagine a Destructor mouse pad with Razer green light rope around the edge and a glowing razer symbol at the bottom.
#10 USB HUB. Very few store bought machines have enough usb ports, and most usb hubs are crap. Razer could add style and function to this much needed peripheral. i need 8 ports my machine has 5... sighhh

Also a mechanical footpad. i LOVE my stinky footpad, it has a metal platform with 4 mechanical, programmable switches. But the styling is yawn worthy. I would love razer to make it.
When playing shooters moving your hand from the tradtional fire position to access additional buttons takes precious time. The footpad is useful as lets say planetside2 :
North switch-Shield
South switch-Crouch (such a natural movement)
East switch-Grenade
West switch-First aid shot
In elder scrolls online:
North switch-Push to talk (mumble, ventrilo etc)
South switch-Crouch/Hide/Stealth
East switch-Healing potion
West switch-Ultimate ability
See the posibilities you rest your feet on it and actuate as needed... RAZER please come out with something like this.

Manahotepfully agree... #6 - especially im also surprised at... people pay WAY over the top amounts for DECENT flight sticks... if you make something great, the sky is the limit for what people would pay. same could also be said for a complete race package with chair, pedals, shifter, and wheel... these are low volume, high priced sales. #8 - the only thing better is a gamepad you can chuck at a wall without shattering lol #9 - theres so much that can be done with a mouse pad... #10 - I have 14 without any needed hubs lol (using 8)

DigitalDarknessOMG lol you cant post funny stuff im at work damn it. I agree with the flight sticks...money isnt an obstacle for them. LOL i agree the occasional nerdrage is why i need a new orbweaver. LOL 3 of my keys dont work. Agreed i understand that a glowing symbol ON the pad isnt possible as it would mess up tracking. But usb ports on the top and maybe even a clock? lol On my wifes machine that i built it has 10 but the alienware is a custom dell only board and only has 5. So i need a gaming grade hub with power distributed evenly across all ports, but with razer styling.

Manahotepalienware has fallen far since its days as a independantly owned custom pc business... theres a lesson to that for razer: DONT ever sell or merge into a bigger company. your products will turn to crap and the customers will abandon you. stay independant and focused on custom designs with top notch engineering instead of low quality shared parts between model lines and brands for cost cutting...

I disagree and agree. I have 2 beast gaming machines one my alienware r4 and 1 my wifes pc that i built her. Small companies cant make cases liek alienware which is the main reason i bought it. I love alienware BUT they are overly expensive and a horrible value vs performance. BUT they look amazing, the lighting scheme software is awesome (they had chroma before ANYONE) the motorized vent system in the ALX chasis is ULTRA cool. And the support has proven quite good and 4 years of it is great. However it is a pure vanity purchase and my wifes machine will hand my alienware its but for $1000.00 less. But i like the support, the look and the issue resolution. If something breaks outside of 90 days on a home built its a pain. And GOOD boutiques are just as expensive (though you get more machine). Only Origin in my opinion is on alienwares level as far as beautiful machines and they will be my next machine.
Also there is the alienware community is amazing much like the razer community.

DigitalDarknessI do however agree that razer should attempt to stay independant. Remember Voodoo pc's? HP bought them and flushed them down the toilet. DEI bought Precision Power and flushed an audiophile amp company down the toilet. I think though the custom boutique feel of alienware has gone away.Alienware influences many with their innovative case designs, support and community.

Throughout the years, I've struggled to keep up with college because some of my art classes require me to use a Macbook Pro. I like the Macbook. It has a nice UI. But the problem about it is that it hasn't changed technically. And in addition to that, I grew up with traditional fine arts instead of graphic design.
Wacom has built PC tablets for artists for quite a while. And they do a real excellent job at that. But it lacks a strong GPU.
I know for a fact that Razer made an attempt to make a PC Tablet for gamers, but it wasn't Wacom pen compatible.
If Razer could make a PC tablet that could compete the Surface Pro by adding a pen and at least GPU of a GTX 860m, I would definitely buy it. I think anyone who is into art and gaming would buy that more than anything else.
But only one could dream, right?
