Wolverine V3 Pro- Lack of Real Button Mapping

I just ordered the wolverine v3 pro because it seemed to be the perfect controller, especially for PC which is what I play on most of the time. I chose this over the Xbox series elite 2 because those apparently have questionable build quality and the wolverine v3 seemed exceptional in that area. It turns out, I was right, this controller IS the perfect controller for PC, or rather it would be if the software side of it was any good.

  • As it stands, there is no way to remap any buttons besides the extra triggers and the paddles and these can only be remapped to the other standard, already mapped buttons on the controller. Realistically this makes the extra buttons virtually useless. I have no use to have two buttons that do the same thing.
  • There is no way to remap ANY buttons to a keyboard input. THIS CONTROLLER IS BASICALLY USELESS TO A PC PLAYER
  • I truly do not understand why this is even marketed as a PC controller without button mapping, and by that a mean actual button mapping, not whatever this is. As far as I am aware, every single PC controller allows you to remap buttons.
  • The biggest issue for me is that Razer has this functionality for almost all, if not all, of there mice and Razer synapse works flawlessly for this exact feature. Why was this ignored on a $200 controller?
  • Another minor issue is the lack of Bluetooth. I don’t really mind this as I would prefer to use the wireless dongle for my PC, which is what I mainly play, but for something that is supposed to be an Xbox controller, this just seems silly.

In conclusion, I was extremely excited about this controller when it came in and a few hours later here I am ranting about it on a forum because of some extremely dumb decisions that were made on behalf of Razer. This product could’ve easily been THE controller to buy if they had just thought it through. This was a huge disappointment to me as I generally really love Razer products.

I WILL BE RETURNING THIS AND TAKING MY CHANCES WITH THE XBOX ELITE 2 CONTROLLER BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY ALLOWS YOU TO MAP BUTTONS.

Did this topic help you find an answer to your question?

Thanks for sharing. I was thinking of buying this as I also play on PC. I'll pass this one for now.

This is such a big deal. It's by far my least favourite thing about an otherwise really nice controller. Feels like a step back from my old Elite 2 in that way which is really disappointing as it's an upgrade in almost every other way.

Hi there,

I’m unsure if you’ve got this problem. But after mapping the M1..M6 buttons, after sometime some of them are re-mapping themselves to anything. Sometimes it’s the A button, sometimes it’s a directional pad arrow, etc.

When using the headset, the volume goes up and down automatically with no other reason.

I was wondering if anyone has got the same problem. Disconnecting/Connecting the controller won’t help as this misconfiguration persists. The only way to fix it is to re-entering to the Razer app on Xbox; note that the original mapping is still shown, but not working, so I’ve got to re-map to the original configured button and it works… then after sometime of play it fails again. So frustrating!

I do agree with your statement, we should be able to map a combination of buttons for convenience instead of single ones, but I guess the app is currently limited.

It has arrived yesterday and it’s consistently failing, so I’m thinking on returning it as it does not fit for purpose

It sounds like you had high hopes for the Wolverine V3 Pro but were really let down by its software limitations, especially for PC. The lack of full button remapping, including the inability to map to keyboard inputs, is definitely a huge downside for a controller that’s marketed for PC gaming. It’s frustrating when a product with such great physical design and potential gets overshadowed by poor software support.

If remapping is a deal-breaker, the Xbox Elite Series 2, despite its mixed build quality feedback, does offer full remapping functionality, which sounds like it's more aligned with your needs. Hopefully, that controller ends up being a better fit for you, and I get why you’re going that route after this experience.

Sometimes, it’s the small software features that really make or break a controller, and it’s disappointing when companies like Razer miss the mark on something that should’ve been standard. I hope the Xbox Elite 2 delivers on the customization you’re looking for!

Im in the same place as you.  Completely insane to leave it out of this controller.  Im going to return mine and just use the money to upgrade my elite2 with hall sensors and mouse buttons.
