2018 Razer Blade 15 "Base Model" Possible Upgrades
Hello, I'm going to be buying a blade soon (1TB HDD + 128gb SSD) and I'm wondering what upgrades I can make. I plan on upgrading the ram, but I can't find the exact type of SSD is already installed, is it a 2.5inch or a m.2-2280? Also how would I go of moving windows from what ever drive it Is on to the new one? Thank you.

What I did on my 2019 RTX2070 advanced model: Swapped the existing 256GB SSD to a Samsung 970 Pro 512GB:
1. Start the Blade with the original SSD and login to Windows so that the Windows Key can be linked online to your Microsoft account.
2. Download Windows 10 iso on a USB stick using Windows Media Creation Tool
3. Shut down the Blade, swap the SSD
4. Start the Blade by booting from the SSD and install Windows
5. Once you have logged in to Windows it will recognize your online key validation and Windows is activated by your online account.
6. Done

Is there no way to properly clone the original to a new larger disk? It seems crazy to have to reinstall Windows and all of the post build software.
What`s the big deal? Download the Windows 10 iso using Microsoft`s tool. Install Windows (10 minutes), let Windows install the drivers automatically by Windows update:

May take you all in all 20 minutes.

What about the Razer software and Restore partition? You will lose all of that. You can re-download all the software I suppose from Razer but it will take much longer than 20 minutes. It becomes moot if I can simply image the one M.2 to another M.2. See my point?

I never used any restore partition. For what reason?
I can install a clean Windows myself and get newer drivers than on the razer support site. The only software to be downloaded separately is Synapse.

Hi, did u buy the 128 gb base model? if yes did you manage to upgrade the ssd to Nvme?
I am currently in process of upgrading and want to confirm that 128 GB ssd that my RB 15 has can be replaced with quicker Nvme ssd. thanks

Yes you can use faster nvme or sata. Keep in mind if you’re using only for gaming there’s no huge between nvme and good sata ssd, the difference like on booting or gaming load maybe not noticeable like 1 or 2 seconds depends on the game.
