Blade 2017 Battery Swelling

I am on my f'ing 3rd laptop with a severely swollen battery which causes the trackpad to bulge out. It's crazy.

You have to spend $100 every time you want to send it in, they will not send you a new battery. It's insult to injury. The swollen battery issue shouldn't happen at all, yet they let it.

I used to be impressed with this brand of laptop but now a 0/10 easy.

They don't stand behind their own engineering. This should be a mass-recall yet they wont.

I have a hard time understanding how "most" other people don't have this issue. It seems like a 100% chance of occurring in my case.

Let me be clear, this isn't just a bad battery issue. The swelling of the bad battery actually bends the laptop shell. It's a soft metal, so the laptop starts to bend.

Sorry to hear that. Battery bulging might because bad battery quality and also depends on thermal environment they’re on. On that link apparently fans are dusted that might slow down the cooling performance resulting high temperatures on cnc unibody aluminum, and unfortunately even current blade 15, they have been only one heat output vent and maybe a bit through keyboard, so running on high temperature environment might wear the battery faster. As on that link I mentioned I had over 2 years Blade 14 2015 and current 2018 15 is also over 2 years no swelling issue, maybe because mostly I monitor the temperature and doing other things like cpu undervolting and cpu boost clock limitation to keep it not touching 90ish degrees, and I clean annually the fans and radiator inside and in 2 year mark repasting the thermal paste.
Yes unfortunately like a cancer, battery swelling might kill the laptop if it breaks the motherboard, regardless Razer Blade. On Razer laptop current models, with non physical right/left click buttons, hard to click on lower surface areas may be early stage from battery swelling and should check it asap before it bend anything inside.
I hope on next Razer Blade 15 since this Model need to output a lot heat (unlike stealth that use low voltage parts, and pro that has bigger cooling room) they’ll add more heat output vent like on sides or other output grills on bottom, hardware wise, and software wise limiting charging rate on lower percentage while on AC adapter use might also contribute to battery longevity, later one is already being done on some other thin light categories gaming laptops brands.

@Joikansai I really enjoy the Razer Blade 15 2016-7 as my work laptop it has the trackpad and physical left and right mouse buttons. I have attached a photo of my Razer 15. I never realized the battery until two days ago. I've been using a mouse instead of the pad. Call the square trade extended warranty in?

I still like to stick with the Razer 15's, if I do purchase a new one down the line. I hope something like this wouldn't happen... or can it? I wonder if Razer collects data on users who reported battery bulges and need replacement and what not.

You meant blade 14, the picture and physical left/right click don’t exist on 15. I can’t guarantee it won’t happen on your upcoming Blade 15 as I mentioned this might be from bad battery batch or thermal, I keep always on the later, so maybe I’m lucky enough to not having the issue on 3 different blade laptops for over 2 years usage (Blade 14 2015, stealth late 2016, Blade 15 2018). But it happens not only on Razer you can check Reddit spicypillow, macbook Dell etc suffer also this issue. Maybe I’ll get a good guarantee if purchase a new Blade (on some region comes only with a year), like Razer care extension or 3rd party resellers own extension guarantee.

@Joikansai well I contacted my extended warranty support and they can't do anything about the bad battery. They even advised me to go to local stores to replace it. Even stores like Geek Squad (diagnostic fee $90 avoided) or IBreakUFix couldn't do it without the battery replacement itself. I got tutorial videos and purchased the third party battery off amazon. Looks simple to swap out.
