Hi, I'm trying to connect my Apple Thunderbolt 27-inch display to my Razer Blade 15 Studio Edition 2020 using a StarTech.com Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter. I'd appreciate any help. I have a ticket in with Razer tech support, but I'm not optimistic.

This adapter is widely reported on the internet to successfully connect this Apple monitor to laptops from several manufacturers. I spoke to StarTech tech support, and they confirmed that it should work, depending on the settings of the laptop.

When I connect the monitor to the RB15, nothing happens. The Monitor stays dark and the RB15 doesn't know it's there. The Monitor doesn't show up in the RB15's Thunderbolt control panel.

I have verified that the entire hardware chain is in good working order. The chain is configured like this:

RB15 TB3 Port>StarTech Adapter>Thunderbolt cable>Monitor

The Thunderbolt-3 port on the RB15 and the adapter are working, because when I plug a Thunderbolt hard drive into them, the RB15 recognizes it and it shows up in the Thunderbolt control panel.

The Monitor and the Thunderbolt cable are working, because they work fine when I plug the same cable into a Mac.

I have also updated Windows 10, BIOS, and all the Thunderbolt software and drivers. Everything is current.

On the internet, I've found many posts about people using this adapter with a Windows 10 laptop to connect with this monitor. The trick seems to be in the BIOS settings.

All of the successful solutions require changing two settings. The first setting they changed was turning off Thunderbolt Security.

The second BIOS setting is a little different for each computer manufacturer. Here are the settings that solved the problem from three different manufacturers:

(1) changing to "BIOS assisted device enumeration."

(2) enabling the "Thunderbolt in BIOS Assist Mode"

(3) deactivating "native PCIe hot plugging."

I turned off Thunderbolt Security in the BIOS of my Razer Blade. By itself, this did not solve the problem.

I have not been able to find "BIOS assisted device enumeration," "Thunderbolt in BIOS Assist Mode" or "native PCIe hot plugging" in the BIOS.

Are these BIOS settings called something else on the Razer Blade? Is there a way to adjust these settings from within Windows?

If I could activate any of these settings on my Razer Blade, it would probably solve the problem.

Please let me know if you have any ideas about how to get this monitor to work. Thanks!

Same here. I used the Apple thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter. Works fine with my thinkpad but never works with my rb15 2019.
