Razer Blade 15 Base 2021 QHD 165hz stuck at 60hz

Dear Razer,

I just recieved my new Razer Blade 15 Base 2021 QHD 165hz edition, and right out of the box the screen is stuck at 60hz. I have only tried factory resetting it, and installing the latest Nvidia GPU driver through GeForce Experience.

Apart from that, no software has been installed that would affect the screen (I have installed Chrome).

I cannot change the refreshrate in Razer Synapse (performance tab), Windows settings or Nvidia Control Panel, and Geforce experience is telling me that my screen is indeed a 2560x1440p screen, but a 60hz screen and not a 165hz screen. I am currently writing to you on it following a factory reset and the issue has persisted.

Any help would be much appreciated. I do find that basic things such as the screen should work as advertised outof the box in a laptop at this price.

Regards,

Garuwashi90

Hey everyone! Thanks for initiating this thread. If your laptop is using the dedicated GPU mode, please go to Razer Synapse 3.0 > System > Performance, change GPU mode to dedicated GPU, restart the computer and check if you have an option to change screen refresh. Should the issue persist, please send me the following:

a. Screenshot of System Information (Hit Windows+R to open the Run box. Type “msinfo32” into the “Open” field, and then hit Enter.)
b. Screenshot of Windows version (Hit Windows + R. Open the Run box with then type winver)
c. Screenshot of Synapse version (Click the gear/cog icon at the top right. For Synapse 3.0, click “About”).
d. Screenshot of Nvidia/Intel Driver Version: (Press Windows+R on your keyboard. Type in DXDIAG into the run command text box and hit OK. Then click on YES. Click on the Display 2 tab and look for the Nvidia version on the right side.)
e. BIOS main tab.
f. Synapse 3.0 logs.

Save the compressed files via Google Drive or any online drive account, then paste the link in your PM. Let's continue from there.

Hey @Archer4046! Did you factory reset your computer too?
Thanks a lot for the speedy reply! To further complicate things, if I set it to the dedicated GPU setting as you propose and restart the system as prompted, my screen remains black (with backlight). The computer does booth though, and I have to then connect an external display to get a screen, and reenable Optimus to get the laptop screen working again.

Does this help point at an issue?
Here is a snip of the windows settings showing me that the internal display isnt active. (Using and external display as described above).
So I believe I have fixed the problem. The issue seemed to have been with the latest Nvidia GeForce Game Ready Driver.
I've now uninstalled said driver, switched to dedicated GPU via razer app; without black screen on reboot, now I'm able to select 165Hz under Screen Refresh Rate.
Everything does appear to be good now!
Hi! Great to hear you fixed it! I got it fixed too with the help of Razer support. I think the latest Nvidia driver was the reason on my end too, so I am staying at 457.63 for now. I can now switch to dedicated mode without black screen too, and up the refresh rate to 165.

Did the following to fix it, should anyone else need to (help from support):
1) Press F9 upon boot to enter BIOS factory reset - start recovery
2) Install all windows updates before anything else
3) install Intel Driver Update tool :
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html
4) Install the updates from the tool
5) Enable dedicated GPU-mode

... PRESTO! 165hz.

Tldr; do not install latest Nvidia Game Ready Driver (will test it later) and install windows updates as the first thing after system recovery.

Hope its useful to others! Stay safe out there!

Hey Archer4046! Thanks for sharing this. And yes, that's the workaround that the team is doing for the laptop's display concern.

Good work Garuwashi90! Feel free to send me a PM should you need additional assistance. I suggest monitoring your laptop's display behavior within the next 24-48 hours. I'll be locking this thread now.
