Hi All,

Didn't know where to post this, and I haven't seen alot of topics on this. Basically the Razer Blade 15 base model from mid 2019 comes with a 512GB SSD, and a 2.5in SATA slot. Just wanted to know (since I'm a complete noob to laptop upgrades) if by adding a SATA SSD to the empty slot, if the storage will stack with the existing 512GB SSD in the NVMe Slot?

For example... If I were to purchase a 500gb SATA SSD, will my total memory then be 1TB?

Also... will installing a SATA SSD be as simple as plug and play, or do I have to back up and boot everything up with the installation?

Thanks for the help,

It’s like adding usb drive you don’t need to do anything it’ll pop automatically. You will have new drive like D, beside C drive where your main nmve put windows files.
Awesome! thanks for the reply. What would you recommend though? Should I just bite the bullet and get an NVMe or just add the SATA Drive for now?

You’ve already 512gb nvme on your m2 slot for Windows booting or rendering etc it’s fast enough imo, add bigger ssd to your sata slot for your other files like games, documents or photos will be fine.

Thanks! This is what I was planning to do! 😃

By the way, what’s the Max storage I can put in? I saw a video that says that 2TB is the maximum... but if I buy a 2TB SATA SSD, I’ll technically have 2.5TB? (Including the NVMe)?

Yes it’ll be 2.5tb, separate on two drive basically but keep in mind 2Tb doesn’t mean you have 2Tb it’ll be a bit less with storage tax (lol), plus 512gb that contains windows, maybe windows OS take around 40 to 60gb. About max storage it’s for nvme 2Tb, (Apple even have technology that can put even 4TB, that cost arms and legs (lol again)), for sata I think you can put up to 5TB, if there’s any that fit, however this user put 4TB sata on his Blade base 2018, so i think i can say 4TB.
Hi, so I recently just installed a Crucial MX500 1TB SATA SSD into the empty bay. Plugged it in and everything (the adapter is taped to the battery). Problem is, when the Razer Blade isn't reading the new storage drive. Is there an additional step I have to do to turn it on or enable the laptop to read it?

Thanks for the help in advance!

You'll have to reformat/rename your drive. It doesn't just appear like how external hdd or thumbdrives work. You'll have to select a name for your internal drive and maybe even format it to whatever format you like. Go to disk management and it'll be there, just don't reformat the wrong drive.
I see from this thread that 4TB SSDs work, but has anyone successfully installed a 4TB NVMe PCIe M.2 drive? Like the Sabrent 4TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2?
I have a late 2018 Razer Blade base model. I upgraded the 128Gb SATA m.2 primary SSD to a 2Tb m.2 SATA primary SSD by simply using the Samsung migration tool (absolutely easy). I also upgraded the 1Tb 5,400 rpm HDD with a Samsung 860 EVO 4TB 2.5" SATA III Solid State Drive SSD (MZ-76E4T0B/AM). All was running well until I loaded Duet for Windows software. I had some issues with speed and blue screens of death when I loaded Apple Duet software to connect my iPad Pro as a second monitor. The version of Duet software was made for connection between the iPad and a Windows 10 system. Well, Uncle Bill and Cousin Steve just simply do not play well with each other. After uninstalling the Duet software the blue screens stopped but the over all performance and speed of my system was affected. After attempting to clean the primary SSD with a variety of registry cleaners and other software tools I gave up and used that as an excuse to get a Samsung 970 EVO Plus - 2TB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V7S2T0B/AM) and perform a clean build with Win10Pro. I also upgraded my memory from 16Gb to 32Gb. I did not upgrade my WiFi card (yet ,,,,,,,). That said my laptop is wicked fast and is performing perfectly (knock on wood). I have not messed with the bios or overclocked/under volted my RB Base. Since this is a business machine I didn't think I needed to squeeze out every last bit of speed as it is plenty fast enough for me.

Yes Bill doesn’t like Steve very mucho_O:big_grin_: I got refund for that since my concern is dueting Steve pro 11:smile_: with Blade 15 with stealth it was fine though apparently according developer, Bill:big_grin_: he’s working on the improvement with laptop with nvidia graphics which I didn’t really believe and didn’t want to wait forever, got the refund asap.
Sorry out of topic but just want to share if some other has similar experience.
Cheers
