System freezing when connected to eGPU and doing anything BUT gaming.

Having an issue that's really confusing me. I have a Razer Blade Stealth 13" less than a month old, and a Razer Core X from 2018 that worked great with my previous Stealth.

When I connect the Core X (it has a GeForce RTX 2070 in it) to the laptop, I can play games no problem. I can stress the GPU for hours gaming and it works great. But if I try to do anything else while the Core X is connected, such as watch Youtube, browse the web, watch something with VLC Media player, or even just clicking around in my Event Viewer (trying to figure out wtf is going on) the system freezes and I have to hard reset.

I can do all these other things when the Core X is not connected but it's extremely inconvenient to disconnect it and have to switch to using the tiny laptop monitor whenever I want to do anything that isn't gaming.

I'm pretty sure the RTX 2070 in the Core X is healthy since it has no problem being stressed for hours gaming.

I made sure my bios is up to date, I completely removed my NVIDIA and Intel display drivers with DDU and reinstalled them. I tried a new Thunderbolt cable. Nothing has helped.

Anyone know what could be going on? Thanks!

I seem to have fixed the issue by changing the "Power Management Mode" setting in NVIDIA control panel>3D settings>Global settings from "optimal power" to "prefer maximum performance".

I'll include a link to where I found this solution as it also has other solutions about dealing with freezing/crashing eGPU systems that could be useful to anyone with similar issues: https://egpu.io/forums/pc-setup/guide-generic-windows-10-solutions-for-egpu-bsod-crashing-and-system-freezing-link-state-power-management-tdrdelay-tdrddidelay-nvidia-power-management-settings/#post-97700
