Hi guys,

Not sure if there's a thread on this already, if so please share the link with me.

I recently bought my razer, here the specs that I consider necessary to mention

Razer Blade 15 Base Edition - OLED 4K 60Hz - GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q

PROCESSOR 10th Gen Intel®️ Core™️ i7-10750H 6 Core (2.6GHz/5.0GHz)
MEMORY 16GB Dual-Channel (8GB x 2) DDR4-2933MHz

My question: I want to upgrade the ram of this laptop up to 32GB of ram, which ram should I get? there are so many out there and there is many people with different opinions out there in this, I turn to this forum trying to get an accurate advice on this matter. I hope any of you can help me out.

Thank you.

Roger.

Hi Roger,
I just upgraded the memory in the Base 15 2020 and the system booted right up and runs perfectly fine.
I purchased Kingston HyperX 64GB DDR4 - 3200 ; HX432S20IBK2/64

The only issue that I found is the Base model does not support XMP which would allow it to run the memory speed at 3200 instead of 2933. No options in the BIOS to enable XMP like some of the other models.
Originally, the documentation stated that it supported XMP (when I purchased the Razer) but this was removed after some customers inquired about how to enable it.
You can find the details in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/iubpnw/2020_razer_blade_15_base_xmp_profiles_in_bios/

It is disappointing to say the least but hopefully this will keep you and others from making the mistake I made and spend more money on higher performance RAM than the system allows.

I will add my $0.02 about the XMP situation.

Hi technoOPALMint623,

Thanks so much for the info, I really appreciate it. You said you purchased "Kingston HyperX 64GB DDR4 - 3200" based on the info you shared with me that means that this memory only runs up until 2933mhz, is that right? and did you purchase only one stick or you bought 2 rams each one of 32gb capacity? This laptop says is dual channel, does it mean I have to buy two memory sticks and install it both or I can buy only one, let's say for instance right now my laptop has two ddr4 stick each one 8gb for a total of 16gb. I would like to upgrade the laptop ram to a little bit more than 32gb, so I was thinking to buy only one ram of 32gb and install it next to the old one. I hope this makes sense 😅
One more question in this, If I buy only one ram stick [in case I can do it] does it matter if that stick is of a different frequency speed? so the old one is 2933mhz and the new one will be 3200mhz does this create any incompatibility issue? Do you have any info on this?

Thank you so much for your help.

Roger.
Hi Roger,

Did you upgrade your RAM already? I`m looking for the same upgrade but from 16 to 32 Gb.

As for your question, I don`t think it`s a good idea to use 2 different RAM sticks together even if they have the same clocks and timings. If dual channel, using 2x16 Gb is better then a single 32Gb stick because you`ll use both channels instead of one. A jump from 2x16 Gb to 2x32 Gb is recommended.

Hi Stef,

Thank for your message. No I still trying to find a solution for it. I was in contact with the Razer support, I asked them about this and this is what they told me:

"
Hi Roger,

This is **** from RAZER Technical Team. .

Thank you for contacting our Chat support site.

We've got a confirmation from the higher team that your Blade 15 Base Model does not support an XMP ready RAM for upgrades.

We apologize if this Blade model does not support it.

You may want to check our Blade 15 Advanced and Blade 17 Pro models for the XMP support, Roger.

If your Blade is still within the return period, you may consider those models with XMP support."

While on the live chat, they told me that as long as the ram is 2933Mhz I can upgrade my laptop up to the max capacity 64Gb, but it has to be 2933Mhz.

I looked around and I found this ram that it is 2933Mhz [actually I think I got that link from one of the guys in a other thread] Now my problem is that amazon don't send this item to Ireland! Wt.... I hope you have more luck than me :)

If you find a ram that works for you, please let me know, I am still in the hunt.

Thanks.

Roger

Hi Roger,

Thank you for sharing the information. I also contacted Razer support but I only received their warranty policy. So no luck on that part 🙂. I even asked them to replace the RAM for me because they support 32Gb in their models but they don`t offer this service.

That`s true. If you find the RAM that fit`s your laptop with the same clock and timings out of the box as the original, that should work for sure. Because your motherboard is programmed to operate under these settings. When you use RAM with different settings it`s just a matter of changing these in the Motherboard bios (If your motherboard support this and your RAM is able to handle it) or import the XMP profile with an Intel CPU. But i didn`t check the Razer Bios yet.

I think the one you send me looks fine. Only the CL21 seems a bit slow to me compared to what I`ve on my desktop.
On Amazon I found these: Link. But it`s true, the RAM on the Razer Blade 15 is running under CL21 (You can check this with the software CPU-Z under the memory category). If you order them in the US, they don`t ship to Ireland?

Just make sure you use both channels, otherwise you will lose some performance because all data is going through one channel instead of 2. Also make sure you don`t mix different memory because a difference in voltage can cause system instability. It is even better to buy a kit, meaning 2 or 4 RAM sticks in one package. Because those are tested together and can run under the same voltage range. If you just want more then 32Gb with the same speed I suggest you look for 2x32Gb 2933Mhz CL21. It will use both channels and there`s no need for a XMP profile or manual settings.

I`ll have a look around and I`ll post here if I found something that works for me 🙂. Just note that I use the 2021 model with the Intel 8-core CPU. It should be the same RAM as the 2020 model but I don`t know all the details 🙂.

Bests,
Stef
Hey Stef,

Wow that link is super useful, thanks a lot! and the best think it can be deliver to Ireland 😃
Thanks also for the recommendation of buying two rams instead of one, I was a bit confused on that and you just cleared it out for me 🙂

I own the RB 15 2020 [early year] base model, it has the 10th gen intel i7-10750H blah blah.... Anyway, thanks again. If I find something new about it I will post it and I'll be waiting for any update you may have in the future too.

Please stay safe and have a lovely day :)

Roger.
