Behind the Scenes with the Razer Huntsman TE

The Razer Huntsman TE has revolutionized the playing field for mechanical keyboards. By providing a fundamentally new optical switch, the Huntsman family of keyboards eliminates debounce delay.

Although mechanical keyboards can utilize software to try and compensate for debounce delay, optical switches actuate via light. Light actuation makes the switch faster, more durable (up to 100 million keystrokes), and reduces debounce delay to the speed of light. Literally.

Under codename “Project Jamie”, the Huntsman took Razer’s top engineers years to develop. The keyboard can now be seen in competitive play, being used by some of Team Razer’s best pro players. TACO (CS:GO) and Arteezy (Dota 2) both rely on the Huntsman TE to gain the competitive edge. Team Razer’s pro players not only use this keyboard in competitive play, they helped develop the Huntsman, through dozens of iterations in a fast feedback loop directly with Razer engineers.

Starting with the switch, engineers at Razer recognized the inherent debounce deficiency in mechanical keyboards. Looking at the numbers, Razer Clicky Optical Switches require 45 grams of actuation force, are 25% faster than leading competitors, with a precise 1.5mm actuation distance. Quality and insanity for detail didn’t just stop at the switch. One of the final touches the Huntsman TE got was its PBT keycaps.

Keyboard customization plays a large role when deciding on which one to buy. Razer wanted to make sure customization was something they could offer but it had to be up to standard and Razer found itself tweaking the product up until the very end. When asked about finishing touches, the Razer team said: “For the Huntsman TE - it was perfecting the PBT keycaps to look aesthetically pleasing, while being thick and durable.” PBT keycaps are something the fans have been asking for and it looks like Razer was listening.

Debating between the Huntsman Elite and Huntsman TE?
The Huntsman Elite is a full sized keyboard, with a detachable wrist rest, media keys, and a Chroma RGB underglow.

The Huntsman TE is a tenkeyless keyboard, with a detachable cable, and Razer’s Doubleshot PBT keycaps.

That's awesome! But only in US layout.. what a pity :frown_:
I have a Huntsman and I think it is a pretty good equipment if you play a lot of games that depend on keyboards like SC2:)
Can't wait to get this keyboard. Unfortunately a new mouse is required sooner. 😞
by far the best huntsmen in my opinion
Absolutely beautiful! this keyboard is one of a kind!

I don't want to get into the math but I have 54k right now and I've been collecting since December 19th. I'll take me another year I believe.
I'm actually trying to gather enough zSilvers to claim it for free haha wish me good luck.
My razer ANANSI is 6 years old now and the buttons do feel slow when i play mmorpg.. wondering if i should get the TE or just the standard huntsman. I like it being TKL and have detachable cable.
This keyboard is amazing, like whoever invented this I want to give a hug to, THIS IS AMAZING to the RGB or the PBT keycaps.Only problem is that the rgb isn't as bright as other keyboards but THAT DOESNT MATTER when the keyboard is good.

bought it last week and am very happy with it. Sensitivity is very high and i actually enjoy typing on this keyboard. yes it does take a while to get used to and some errors in typing along the way before you master typing on it...

what is the equivalent of red optical switch to the regular switches?

what is the equivalent of the red optical switch to the regular switches?

red and purple optical switches have laser tech underneath the cap where every time you press a key, a laser beam will go off to the other side of the cap. Unlike a spring.///ESSENTIALLY it has a better actuation force

yes i know but what is the equivalent of that force on an ordinary switch?

yes i know but what is the equivalent of that force on an ordinary switch?

opto mechanical switches have 40g of actuation force and light actuation unlike normal switches. Normal switches have 50-80g actuation force and the metal has to hit the base of the keyboard unlike normal switches
I do like the Huntsman :wink_: , but im gonna stick with the Blackwidow for now .... :big_grin_:
I was 2k Short to redeem the hunstman elite and almost 50k coins would expire. Will be great to have this added in razer silver.
alright i got this keyboard when at the beginning of this year, the actuation took some time and if you guys could add something to maybe allow the used to have a chance to change the actuation distance that would be greatly appreciated. as someone who came from the Ornata and black widow BF 4 edition (yes ive been around that long) the reds took some time to get used to but the keyboard is solid and feels amazing when typing up law school papers. (also feels good for dota) so it did take some time to get used to but damn do i like it now! razer this was a solid keyboard, this small form factor with the PBT keys are simply what ive wanted. now i also like the razer blade keyboard on the blade 15 id send up a poll to see what people thought of some that was a desktop version. might be interesting if you threw that idea in the air and see what sticks!
love it ❤ for all playing tournaments. Razer ❤ Comfortable to play
thats true, i mean i use it for dota, some customization on actuation distance and maybe a wrist rest would be greatly appreciated if this was redone.

How do you get that much zSilver? I'd imagine you'd need to play heaps of Paid to Play games.

Exactly. I'm very active here and I get every bit of Silver that I can from Razer Cortex on PC and on mobile.

Do you have to pay for the games that are Paid to Play games on Cortex for PC?
