I have a Razer Ornata V2 Keyboard and I bought myself a brand new Gaming System, with lets just say very good and recently released parts.
I have two other systems (much older) and the Synapse software has been a nightmare, slow to load, sometimes wont load when it does, a key press can result in a 5 minute wait to get the the next key press across multiple system now.
So, I thought, FINALLY !!!! brand new system, high spec parts, new install of windows, I can finally enjoy the keyboard for what it is...................... not so.
Software can take 5 minutes to load up, can sometimes not even load the usual story for me.
And the worst part, it can make my high end CPU shoot up to 97 degree's and when I look at the processes 3 Razer software processes are sitting at the top 3 for being in use. Kill those processes and my CPU drops down to 45% (This software left unchecked is a CPU system killer) !!!!! Be warned.
Cut this story short as the title suggests, as I have not found an clear answer doing a google search, or searching these forums and because I have done endless trouble shooting without any luck.
Can I control the keyboard lighting effect without having to install the software. Can I get my rainbow wave effect without having to select and apply it in the software?
That is all I want to know.....

use fn keys
This is me while playing World of Warcraft, and the next top 4 processes in use are Razer. Shooting my CPU temp to near 100 degree's

use fn keys
So I can uninstall the software and using fn keys I can control lighting effects?
Do you know what the keyboard shortcuts are used or how this is done?

try using fn and numbers

Yeah, I don't want to uninstall the software unless I know for sure it will work, because it can be a nightmare for me to install it again, everything I have been searching for in the past 30 minutes say's these keyboards have no onboard memory and other than the default light setting and it's impossible.
I just want a rainbow wave effect, if it cannot be done, I am more than happy to find a keyboard that will give colour settings without software being required.
i dont think you need software. try plugging it into a diff device and test it there

Nope, I plugged it in, an nothing works in the way of colours, I cannot even find anything to give any indication that there is any key combination to change colours
Not possible to change colors WITHOUT Synapse software on this keyboard.
I don't think so that it is possible to change the colours of the keyboards without the software......
I think you need to have Synapse to change the lighting effects
In the end I ended up going and buying a different brand keyboard, one that is mechanical, has onboard lighting effects, does not require software for it to work. I got rid of the Razer software and my computer runs good, no dangerous CPU temps, do stalling of software loading or freezing.
It seems like for years razer has had software issues, I can find plenty of posts not just on here, but elsewhere in large numbers.
I could understand maybe if I had an older computer that things might be buggy. But I have tried this software on three different Systems including a high end brand spanking new gaming PC and it still has the same issues.
The keyboard is great, but the software to get any enjoyment out of it is just poor.
I am happy for those who for whatever reason do not have an issue with their product. But I wont be buying another razer product in future given the issues and experiences I have has trying to use it on multiple systems.

hi everyone...I've got a Razer ornata chrome and I would like to use it with my xbox series x...I've change the color of the keyboard with Razer synapse but when I reconnect the ornata with the xbox, the colors doesn't change...anyone know why?
beside fn+F11 (which kills the lights completely) couldn't do much with this keyboard
synapse is eating almost 20% of my 10900K all the time - probably is mining somewhere something, so I got rid of it
that's a false advertising that on the keyboard can be stored 5 profiles...
I see on the forum that this issue is for years, an Razer has no intention of fixing it, or at least allow a static color by default

but when I save a custom set of colour where it is save?on the keyboard or on the pc?

well, apparently OpenRGB is working for some razer devices...
at least for me it's working for FireFly V2 and Huntsman, Viper 8K is not yet supported
in order to store the light profile in device's memory, it's important to follow these exact steps - select a color, then a mode (default is direct, and the light profile is still saved after a restart, but not after a shut down or if the devices is removed from USB or moved to another computer etc), then Apply
close the program, delete it and that's it!
OpenRGB for Windows is just a simple archive, no need to install anything, not screwing registries, dlls etc simple and fair, could be run even from an USB :P
I hated keeping the synapse 3 all the time on background just to keep a static light, sometimes synapse 3 consumed more than 40% CPU load, even in idle just browsing my 10900K was running hard to keep some static lights on, I don't know what they're doing with this "program", maybe sometimes they are mining I don't know, I was quite furious and turned all the light off completely for a while...

as a side note, the color might have to be selected again after changing the mode...
so glad that I have the green stuff after almost 1 year and half running them without, moved the pad and keyboard on a different computer, lights profiles were still there
