F1 Key not responding in standard mode

Hoping this is in the correct section. I have a Cynosa Chroma RZ03 0226. In some games I like to enter console mode by pressing the F1 button. I know it works as the 'help' button in other programs like Word and web browser. For some reason, in games it will not. I press FN F1 and yes, it mutes my volume. But to just press it, it does nothing. Is there something I should otherwise be doing?
