Help me choose the best switch for Razer Huntsman V2 TKL - Red or Purple?

Hi Razer community,

I'm currently looking to upgrade my keyboard to the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL, and I need your advice on which switch would be best for me: the Red or Purple switch.

Here's some relevant information about my preferences and usage:

  1. Current Setup: I currently own a Logitech G213 and previously used a Mars Gaming mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches.

  2. Gaming Style: I consider myself a casual gamer, although I like to be competitive. I'm not aiming to become a pro player, but I do spend a significant amount of time gaming, especially in FPS games like Rainbow Six, CSGO, Valorant, and PUBG.

  3. Typing Frequency: As a student, I spend a lot of time typing for schoolwork, so the keyboard will be in use throughout the day.

  4. Switch Insights: After researching various Reddit posts and other sources, I've learned that the Purple switch is clicky, with a slightly longer actuation time and force required. It offers better responsiveness for typing but might not be as suitable for gaming. On the other hand, the Red switch is linear, providing a shorter actuation time, making it better for gaming but potentially not as comfortable for typing.

  5. Recent Experience: A couple of days ago, I tried a Huntsman TE with Red switches, and coming from my G213, it felt quite different. However, I believe it's just a matter of getting used to the new switches over time.

Considering this information, I'm torn between the two options. I want a switch that strikes a balance between gaming performance and typing comfort. Since I enjoy both activities equally, I'm not sure which switch would be the ideal fit.

I'd greatly appreciate your insights and experiences with these switches, especially if you've used them with the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL. Your advice will help me make an informed decision and ensure that I get the most out of my new keyboard.

Thank you in advance for your valuable input!

I’d go with Red (linear) switches. They’re fast (need some time to get used to), and silent (which is important at night, had mechanical Greens, and they were loud).

Currently using Red’s at work, and it’s really nice to work on the keyboard.
