Behind the Scenes with the Razer Viper | Razer Insider

Hello, Insiders!

I recently got a chance to sit down and chat with the engineering team responsible for the Razer Viper. Take a look at the Q&A below!

What inspired the Viper?

The Razer Viper was specifically designed for competitive gameplay with the purpose of optimizing performance.

How was the name chosen?

It fits what the mouse represents in terms of features and design.

It was also an optical mouse we produced in 2004, back when many mice were still using ball-type mechanical sensors.

What challenges did the engineers face in creating the mouse?

Some of the challenges we faced included finding the right shape and reducing the weight without sacrificing performance. The result is a mouse design without holes in its external shell that could compromise its structural integrity.

What were some of the critical design decisions?

The DPI button was positioned at the bottom to prevent unintended DPI shifts mid-game.

Accessibility of the side buttons are critical for the same reason by preventing unintentional clicks.

In order to ensure the most reliable performance, the Razer Viper is also equipped with a proven 5G optical sensor, optical switches on the main L/R buttons and improved side grips.

How do you envision the Viper evolving?

We envision the Razer Viper evolving with improved technology to eliminate undesired residual drag of the mouse and engineering it to be even more precise.

Note: The recently released Viper Ultimate with fast wireless and a new Focus+ intelligent sensor does exactly this!

How do you use the Viper everyday?

Many of us use the Razer Viper for work and games. It has the perfect balance of both features.

What were some pieces of feedback you got during the product iteration process?

The comfort curves of the mouse had to be carefully built, its weight had to be optimal as tested by esports pros, and the default DPI stages had to be precision tuned.

Was there anything different about how the Viper was developed (compared to other Razer mice)?

All of our mice are approached with the same level of insane attention to detail, but each with a different focus. The Razer Viper went through a bit more esports validation and durability testing, considering the new switch technology has a higher clicks rating.

Why would someone use this over the DeathAdder Elite?

Both mice are great in their own ways, but each mouse caters to gamers of different hand shapes, grip style and, of course, preference to features. The Razer Viper has advantages in eliminating unintended clicks and its lightweight nature makes it more comfortable for larger swipes, but others may feel more comfortable with the DAE’s proven shape slightly larger profile.

What kind of games/gamers would the Viper be best

Any game where precision is critical.

Thank you so much. I love the way they look as my desktop background. Thank you, Vanguard Jenjar.

That photo would be a sick screensaver or background. Is there one like that for the Deathadder V2 or the Huntsman Elite?

Love this viper mouse ❤
I bought my Razer VIper Ultimate back in december on Amazon.

At first everything was amazing, but couple of weeks later all the squeeking/crakling mess began. Both he the left and right click are making noises, ant that awful tacktile feedback... like plastic rubbing on plastic. And everyday it is getting worse and worse. couple of weeks ago the scrollwheel started making sounds like there is sand inside rubbing against it.

RMA could't help me as there is no official dealer in Russia and they cannot ship there =/

Don't get me wrong, the performance of Viper is excellent, the sensor is fansastic, but the build quality of my particular unit is dissapoiting. I've read that the later units (spring 2020) are better build quality... Guess I'm unlucky again, sign....
