Razer Viper 8KHz doesn't work after booting up my PC, until i reconnect it? Anyone else?

Hello,

I've used my mouse (Razer Viper 8KHz) on several PC's since i bought it, using different motherboards and chipsets. I also looked into USB root hub power saving states to no avail. So the issue im about to explain has nothing to do with my environment, and is likely a platform/product issue with this model of mice.

But no matter on which PC or configuration i use it, this always happens:

i can't use the mouse until reconnecting it by taking the USB cable in and out. This means that every time i 'cold' startup my computer, i need to re-attach the mouse before i can get going, which is very annoying, let alone impractical or even impossible for others that may face this issue, in case their PC is under a desk or encapsulated in a desk with their wires running out from the top of their desk. So that immediate access to the rear USB ports is blocked.

In my case, the PC is standing on my desk next to monitor, so it's easy to perform the procedure to make the mouse work. But i should say it will be more comfortable if it got fixed.

Anyone else recognizes this problem? I had a previous SteelSeries Rival 3 mouse, and never had it with that one. I really think that it's limited to the Razer Viper 8KHz

This behavior is not normal at all. Can you PM me the serial number so I can validate its model and check for other workarounds to help you resolve the connection problem? Thanks!

Hello, thanks for the reply. I sent you a message with the serial number as requested

Note that the mouse already doesn't respond after boot when i immediately enter BIOS with the DEL key on POST - i mean it also doesn't move in the BIOS menu's - , equally resolved by taking the USB cable out and in.. which indicates the issue is completely separated from any software (OS / Windows / Drivers) layer, and likely that it's a model, mouse hardware issue. I am running the appropiate Razer Synapse software and driver in Windows, and have passed by many of its updates in the months i've owned the Razer 8KHz, with no change in the issue im experiencing. Besides that like i said, i used the mice on multiple PC's, also using the appropiate software, yet it always happens anywhere with this mouse.

I find it hard to believe it's a bad batch from the factory, that my individual mouse would be stricken by this issue. So my main interest is to hear from other Razer 8KHz mice owners if they recognize the issue im describing. And if they found any workarounds. I really don't feel like returning the mouse, i rely on it, for me its a daily inconvenience to take the cable in & out, but for others with different case-desk setups it can be worse. If we can identify its an issue that applies to a lot of people, Razer can also target a fix in the mouse firmware, or avoid making whatever hardware design mistake as it made with this model in the future.
Dang, i noticed that this issue was noticed and written about by others before:

1) https://www.cravingtech.com/how-to-fix-razer-viper-8khz-not-turning-on-after-a-windows-10-shutdown.html
2) https://www.reddit.com/r/razer/comments/m6g1xg/razer_viper_8k_does_not_turn_back_on_after_my_pc/

So now i got the firmware update (v1.02.00_r1) from the link off that first article (goes to razersupport.com), it's the version with a changelog saying "Fixed an issue where the mouse is not detected by PC after restart" so i was about to test if it solves my issue

But then, i noticed that mysupport.razer.com has an even newer firmware update than the one above, namely version v1.03.01_r1 from January 4, 2023.. a month ago. So of course i updated again. The final update is here: https://mysupport.razer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4540/kw/8khz/ and my installation process was as seen below:

I will still go ahead and test it, when i cold boot my PC tomorrow morning. I will report back if it solves the issue.

However, no matter the outcome, im baffled by that Razer Synapse software doesn't alert the user if a firmware update is available. There have been multiple for this mouse, and i always download all updates that the Razer application shows me. But never does it offer firmware updates, so clearly that's for the user to figure out they exist, or to stumble upon it while experiencing some issue like this one.

Bad design guys, you better take this as a solid suggestion: add an automatic firmware updater/notifier.
The firmware update solved it

have you solved it? i have the same problem after update it

I have the same problem and it’s getting tiresome

i have the latest firmware. (Viper8K_0091_FirmwareUpdater_v1.03.01_r1)

i tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

nothing fixes it

I have the same problem, the mouse disconnect only on first cold start of the day, and in bios also It’s not working, (sometimes It’s working in bios), so I tried with my older mouse which is also an Razer Viper 1Khz and that one works fines on cold start.

I checked with the firmware updater and I have the latest version 1.03.01.

My motherboard is an MSI Gaming Plus z490.

I see here that are many people with the same problem so for sure is a product problem.

Have anyone found the solution ?
