RP2 - 2 major issues with Pie Update for me...any help? | Razer Insider
Skip to main content
Before the Pie update this phone was perfect...why i had this sudden urge to rush the update i honestly do not know...i really wish i hadnt bothered now

1) The status bar does not show all my notifications any more - only to or three...then i just get a dot...and the middle of the status bar is blank. Does anyone know how to get it to fill up again so i can see everything like i used to?

This issue may have something to do with the stupid clock being on the left side now (this is also wierd and i am still not used to it being there....

2) Bluetooth - when i get a phonecall in my car, the phone app no longer shows on my car - and sometimes the sound comes through my speakers and sometimes it doesnt - it so friggin annoying man - i end up just using my phones speaker,...i have tried unpairing and re-pairing but the same thing happens..

is this a permissions issue?? what the hell

thanks in advance for any help!
Your first issue is unfortunately now the way Android handles notifications 😞 (you can thank notches for that) there's no way around it.

As for your Bluetooth issues that's a difficult one to pinpoint. Bluetooth is such a rocky thing on Android I assume this is Android Auto?

1)I dont understand - "the way android handles notifications"? But the notifications are there if you drag the tray down....its just not showing them at the top..and the whole middle bit of the status bar is empty and wasted...in 8.1 there was an option not to abbreviate it and to show all - surely this option is hidden somewhere in Pie? or at least can be enabled with a 3rd party app no?

also what is "notches"?

2) My car stereo runs full android - it is a Joying head unit - basically an android tablet head unit - link below

I have unpaired them from eachother - rebooted and re-paired - i have made 2 calls and the audio comes through - however the "phone" interface does not automatically come up like it used to and when i force it open the controls dont work (answer and hang up)

A notch is the front facing camera protruding into the display. (Pixel 3 XL, OnePlus 6, Essential phone etc,) it's basically in the center of the screen so Android is now set to handle notches. Unfortunately in the case you don't have one (aka us) they still hide all the icons and replace them with a single dot 😞 it's just the way Google have went unfortunately.

As for your Android Bluetooth I'm not sure what to suggest 😞 it's something I've never had the opportunity to use. Since you've tried repairing the only thing id try is to see if the dialer on the phone is now incompatible, try uninstalling all updates to the dailer and try that.

So i dont get it - they created this notch on about 3 phones - out of the million that run android they created this as a compulsory feature? This doesnt make sense....I dont even understand why anyone would want a phone with a notch - what is this stupid idea anyway?

what i find hardest to believe, is that developers can do so many things to mod so many features yet they havent come up with a mod for this one thing??

Well it's now on a lot of devices I just stated 3 I could think off but essentially yes 😞 notches are about getting as much screen as possible even though it kinda means you're loosing screen when watching videos or playing games (which is why Razer didn't put one on)

It's an odd fad but one that took off and Google decided to implement this forced UI change. I'm not sure if there's a third party mod to change the setting or what but ATM it's just the way it is 😞

thanks for the info...appreciate it man

still when all's said and done, Android for me has always been the best mobile OS because of the fact it gives us options,....how they cannot put an option to disable this feature has really pissed me off...and I cant see a reason why they haven't? i mean why not just put a tick box in there so we are not forced to endure this shit if our phone has no poxy notch,
Probably the first phone to have a screen notch was the Essential Phone (PH-1). But, the iPhone X probably made it the big "trend". Since then, many other phones have followed this design (from Motorola, LG, Samsung, Google, and so on).

The reason for it is to "stretch" the screen out to the top edge, while leaving space for the camera, sensors, etc. Samsung has taken a slightly different approach to this with their Galaxy S10 line, in how there's just a small "hole punch" in the screen for the camera.

I'm not a fan of it, personally. Though, I also don't care for curved screens (like the Galaxy S9 line) or rounded corners (like my previous phone, the LG G6). Just give me a normal rectangle! However, it is the current "arms race" in smartphones: maximizing the screen to as much of the front of the phone as possible.

There have been some other phones that have taken a different approach to this, as well. Some phones have the front camera hidden away and pops out form the top when needed (such as from Vivo or Huawei), and there's even one with an entire sliding mechanism that hides ALL cameras when not in use (Oppo Find 😵.

It's.... certainly an interesting race. Though, I'm not entirely sure if it's really useful for the screen to cover the entire front of the phone (little space to hold it without touching the screen, as well as games/apps not making use of this extra real estate).

Now... as for your car issue... are you just using Bluetooth to connect your phone to your car? Or are you using Android Auto? I haven't experienced any issues with just a Bluetooth connection, and I recently got Android Auto to work after a software update to my car (what a day we live in now... software updates for cars....).
