my gas lift makes a rumbling noise

i used wd-40 on the chrome piston of the gas lift on my razer iskur v2 newgen to try and make it spin smoother, since doing that. the gas lift has had this rumble to it that almost sounds as if my chair is farting. i went on reddit to find out you are supposed to use white lithium grease, or silicone lube for the lift. i chose white lithium, bought some, and put it on the chrome lift along with the pin on the bottom after being told to do so. the noise is still here, but if i use razer support, i will be out of a working chair for a minimum of five days and i cant do that long without a chair. does anyone know any possible ways to fix this.
